New EcoBoost
EcoBoost or 5.0 engine? Ordering a new F-150 but do not know anyone that has pulled boat, camper etc. with new ecoboost motor. Anyone has one? Will it pull better than the old 5.4L?
|
got the 5.0...buddy blew tranny pulling a boat with the eco...only few hp diff and milege diff...def get the 5.0
|
IT's the same transmission.
Eco has lot more touque. Sisters godfather has the ecoboost. He pulls a 34 ft bumper pulled camper with no problems. He went from the 5.4L to the Ecoboost. |

deff eco boost. look up specs on both motors. ecoboost makes more torque than the v8's and it makes it at low rpms. perfect for pulling. only 8 ford has that makes more torque is the 6.2 and thats a gas guzzler.
|
Several guys I work with have the ecoboost and they are very happy with the motor. I think one has a big tractor he pulls with it and he likes the way it pulls.
|
i have the 5.0 and am very happy with it. Ecoboost is a good motor and all of its advantages are on the bottom end. When you get that boat (or whatever) up to speed on the interstate you still have a v6.

My boat mechanic has the EcoBoost and loves it. Says it tows very well. I never been a Ford man but just got a new F250 few months ago and love it.

I have the ecoboost and love it. I don't pull anything to big but it's nice while driving to Hackberry going 55 to 60 getting about 25 miles to the gallon. Just drive it, heck make them let you go pull something with it.
|
The 373 rear end can pull 11,500 lbs.
The 315 rear end can pull 8,500 lbs. That is plenty for a 1/2 ton truck. |

um, no its not. my statement is from the ford techs at the dealer I bought mine from. not knocking the motor. The turbo charger doesnt give constant boost throughout the entire rpm range. it does its best work in the lower end and then its help falls off (look at the horsepower graphs, im not making this crap up). yes it has lots of power and pulls fine BUT when you get to the top and are at crusing speed with that load the turbo is no longer a factor and you have a V6. can you kcik it down a few gears and make the turbo a factor again, YES. my statement is very much the truth, try again |
the power bands in teh 2 motors are very different although the numbers are pretty close. the difference maker in the mileage is when you get on top at cruising speed because you have 6 cylinders burning fuel and not 8

The turbos don't not fall off when pulling a load. They may when not at cruise and unloaded, but when pulling, they stay spooled up. |
Quote:
let me rephrase that. its power advantages are on the bottom, mileage at the top |
Quote:
it may or may not give boost at say 5000 rpms but who pulls a load down the hwy at 5000 rpms? all your pulling is between 2 and 2500 on a gas motor right where the eccoboost is putting out 420 torques. |

I have ran the Ecoboost, and the power does not fall off at highway speeds when pulling a boat. If you are pulling a boat and step on it, it runs just as good as any small block V-8. |

thanks for the generic spec sheet. that's great research you did. keep up the good work. Nick, they are both great motors. I chose the 5.0 but you will be happy with either one. good luck with the new truck. |

never said it didnt, I said when you get to top end cruising speed you still have a v6. turbos are beasts of demand, crusing at highway speed is not an area of demand. can you kick it down a few gears and make the turbo a factor again, YES. |
generic spec sheet lol. just giving facts and not some ford techs mouth of word. not knocking on the 5.0 just pointing out the eco boost is better.

You don't need them when crusing at highway speed.
You need them when you want power. Same with a V-8. You get better milage when you don't put your foot in it. Why do you need more power if you are just cruising down the highway. That's when you want the milage. |

The Ecoboost has the milage and torque. What more can you ask for? |
Quote:
in a nut shell Ray thats what ive said. the high numbers are when the turbo is rolling and at cruising speed it is a v6 |

for starters numb nuts I never said the 5.0 pulls better. I've never pulled with the ecoboost. I said I chose the 5.0 and made statements about the ecoboost. I am fully aware of how a turbo works but I'm not real sure you are. But keep reading fords website, you'll be an expert before you know it. and you still havent answered your own simple question, guess cause it wasnt on the spec sheet. here's an idea, go out in your yard and dig around in the tall grass, there's a clue in there somewhere and you will find it sooner or later. |
shizzz gettin real up in this peice!

Turbo's don't put out much compressed air, unless the engine is under load or ramping up.
But you don't need much torque, unless you are under a load or ramping up. I have a turbo diesel truck and a twin turbo gas truck. You don't hear the turbo's whining unless you are under a load, or coming up to speed, or passing. It's good to get good milage, and have decent torque too is a plus. |
Thanks for the help guys.

I got the 5.0 4x4. Love it, Pulls the hell out of my 24' boat. Everything I need it to be. Traded in my 7.3 turbo-diesel for this truck. I feel like I have much more control while pulling with the 5.0 vs the 7.3. I looked at both 5.0 and ecoboost. Drove Ecoboost and was very impressed, almost like a sportscar. Read review after review and drove both several times. Ecoboost was a little louder due to the turbo ramping up. Final decision came after I spoke with mechanic at Planet Ford. Said 5.0 is a solid engine and proven- Easy to work on, lots of room and cheaper down the long haul for maintenance. Told me the turbo was expensive to work on. $2500 for one and told me $4000 to change out both of them. Told him I wanted a truck I could keep a long time- he told me to pick the 5.0- I bought it and never looked back. Love it. |
I've got an fx2 with the ecoboost with 3.55 rear end and I love it. On a recent trip to florida doing 85-95 the whole way I average 17.5 and on they way back set cruise at 78 and average 20. While pulling my 21' bay boat I average 16 driving between 55-65. The truck pulls like a beast and I have had any problems so far in 11,000 miles. And on another note my uncles 09 tundra with the 5.7 cant keep up with my lil v-6!

but Corey, why would you listen to a man that works on these for a living??? the standard spec sheet on fords website says the ecoboost is the better engine!!!!:D ok, I quit. |
I have the Ecoboost and love it. I have a 4wd, with the 3:73 rear end and I can easily get 22mpg at 60 miles per hour. I drove a 5.0 for two weeks as a rental vehicle and didn't care for it. The Ecoboost is very quiet and the truck rides like a Lexus but can haul azz when you want to.

Anyone know anything about the Ford diesels?
