yeah but 20 mph is not ideal and its only been blowing since last night...usually takes a couple days to clear the water... but it def will be flat

SpeckWrangler 04-17-2012 08:29 AM

Yeah I got a buddy headed to do a job down there. Be there in an hour. I will find out then

Weather says another front coming through Friday to Saturday. It may stir up the water a lil too much. May be good for fishing bait on the bottom for reds and drum. I'm givin it another couple of weeks for the trout in the surf if the wind and weather stay calm.

not sure how the beach looks but im 16 miles south of fouchion and this is the prettiest water i've ever seen this close in

SpeckWrangler 04-17-2012 03:40 PM

Talked to my buddy finally. He said the water was flat but looked like chocolate milk. Maybe wait a few days then try again

Asterisk-Rich 04-17-2012 04:34 PM

the north wind needs to blow for a few days to get the conditions right and if it blows over 10 miles an hour it usually messes up the water just as bad as a south wind does...

water is choooocooolate.....and south part of channel where ferry is in cameron is chooocoooolate...dark ;)

"W" 04-17-2012 07:10 PM

Beach you need weaker tides not to stir the water up...need north winds or north east for atleast 2 days and light to calm
......the south winds we just had then turned north ...you can hang that up on the beach...

inchspinner 04-17-2012 07:31 PM

Im bringing the kiddos and my wife sunday to play at the beach....wheres the best spot to chill and do some wading regardless the water we're going any any advice.....tia

On the sand by the coast

inchspinner 04-17-2012 08:14 PM

Aight im gonna try where the dirt meets the trees by dequiincy first and make my way south.....heard they were catchn bigguns today up north by edgerly too.....

Big Kahunaz 04-17-2012 08:22 PM

u can head out to little florida or any of the community beaches out at johnson bayou. Easy access and somewhat kept up for cameron coast...plus some of the better fishing with the rocks and has good cuts between sandbars. Other than that if you just want to go fishing another spot is just east of the channel.

inchspinner 04-17-2012 08:29 PM

Thanks kahunna thats what i needed...thanks bro

I like Mae's Beach cause u can drive all over it and cover a bunch of ground it runs all the way to Sabine pass. Never been that far west though, but have been several miles down there. Just make sure you have a 4WD.

I havent been out that way in years. If you go about ten miles west there use to be a good size Bayou that emptied into the gulf. Fishing and crabbing were good out there. If you keep going, you eventually hit just mud and have to stop. A lot of 4X4 would get stuck out there.

I've made plenty of trips to Mae's in my 2wd tundra

MikeinSlagle 04-19-2012 02:06 PM

I went down to Holly Beach over the weekend, knew the winds were gonna be bad but was the only chance I would have for quite some time.

The water looked like chocolate milk and the weeds were washing up, getting tangled with my line, would have to reel in after just a minute or so to clean it off. That was around the rocks. Finally gave up on the beach altogether and went elsewhere. Didnt make it down to Maes or Little Florida. There were no weeds at Holly Beach.

They've got fence up on the areas of beach where the rocks are. So if you plan on parking on side of the road, find an opening in the fence or you may be facing a long walk in the sand with all your gear.

Does Maes and Little Florida have rocks?
