What is your favorite item to add to your crawfish boil?
Over the years we have had fun adding items to a pot, to see if they were a great addition or not. The list has grown considerably, and is great to use when boiling 3 or more sacks, and feeding 40 or more people.
Helps to make the crawfish go further, and adds an unusal variety to the "Normal" type boil. This year we are doing a sack at a time for 10 or so people. So we have scaled way back on the additional items. It got to the point that we had too many vegtables left over by adding everything that is on my list. So we sat around the table the night before the first boil, and each attendee decided on their favorite item, and then only added a few items. My personal favorite is Conecuh sausage, and add both the "Fat and Skinny". They make it with two different size casings. So now on our weekend boil, we add only these items: Whole Onions, Whole Garlic, small-bite-size red potatoes, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, lemon, and a can of sliced pinapple. The pinapple, like the lemon is for flavor. Adds a noticable sweetness to the pot. What is your favorite item? |
mushrooms and baby carotts

We just do corn, red potatoes and onions. Now after the boil i have done a head of cabbage talk about good. Also i've put in 2 whole chickens and boil them in the crab boil, deboned and made chicken salad talk about good.

Corn, onions, red potatoes, smoked sausage and fresh sausage. I still wanna try some ribs, heard you can't beat 'em!
|
If I had to choose only one item it would be mushrooms. Them things can soak up some flavor.
|
Not my favorite, but cauliflower soaks real good too. I'm a mushroom fan myself.

2 words: TURKEY NECK!! but be careful cause them things can soak up some spices and can get out of hand real quick. We boil them for about 30 minutes r so. After that I would say mushrooms and baby carrots. Also the kid love them hot dog wieners.
|
One other thing I like to add is about 2 dozen big fat male crabs and 10 pounds of 16-20 Fresh Brown Louisiana Shrimp
|
Crystal hot sauce
|
garlic and shrooms
|
Not my favorite item but the most unique is probably cans of corn. Punch a small whole in each end, toss it in, then drain and serve in a bowl with some butter - good stuff!!!

Asparagus is the shiz boiled with all ya goodies!! I didn't think it was gonna turn out as good as it did but pewww that was fine! |
Interesting to me how I've been eating crawfish all my life, and to this day I'll still go to a boil where someone has thrown something in that I've never tried before...and it's always good.
I like the basics in my own pot...corn, new potatoes, sausage and chicken. But basically, I've never tried anything that was thrown in that wasn't good |

Without a doubt I like mushrooms the best. Second would be onions cut in half wrapped in aluminum foil - the heart of the onion is hard to beat. Third would be French style green beans. Fourth small red potatoes - fresh from garden is the best. Most of the time 10 lbs of potatoes and corn get thrown away....... You can only eat so much left overs. I have never seen a mushroom get thrown away!!!!
|
Add people and beer! Never go wrong!
What i like to do is if there are any leftovers, take all of the veggies (corn, potato, onion, mushroom, cut it up finely , along with some leftover tails and make a crawfish soup / chowder......Now this is OFF THE CHARTS! |
