Goggle-Eye Slam

1 Attachment(s)
45 goggle eyes, 6 bream, 3 sacs. Not bad for a Friday solo trip.

redaddiction 04-26-2012 10:47 AM

Awesome catch! Is there a certain technique or bait to catch more goggle eye. I catch them when bream fishing but it looks like you were targeting them.

cmcnabb 04-26-2012 10:49 AM

Nice. Those goggle eyes are fun to catch

Hookem03 04-26-2012 10:51 AM

Technique

No technique, just what happened to be hitting at the time. Fished near the base of some willows where it was deep. They must have been hangin out in there waiting on bait to pass by.

ElectricChicken 04-26-2012 11:04 AM

Where at?

bjhooper82 04-26-2012 11:26 AM

Nice haul!!

Hookem03 04-26-2012 11:36 AM

Along the boulevard in Henderson! A lot of people have been doing good out there with the water falling, but the word is out and there will be a lot of traffic out there for next couple weeks.

Table full great job

Goosepond Monster 04-26-2012 12:37 PM

Is a goggle eye like a rock bass/warmouth?

Coppertone 04-26-2012 12:43 PM

What did you catch them on?

jgannard 04-26-2012 12:50 PM

THINK it is a warmouth. Not 100% though

jchief 04-26-2012 12:57 PM

The warmouth, warmouth sunfish, or warmouth bass is the common name for Lepomis gulosus, a large sunfish found throughout the eastern United States. Other local names include Redeye, Goggle-eye, Red-Eyed Bream, Stump Knocker, Rock Bass, and Strawberry Perch.

Yes

jchief 04-26-2012 01:00 PM

Man, aint we a helpful bunch today. LOL

Very nice catch by the way. Love catching em on light tackle.

Hookem03 04-26-2012 01:05 PM

Bait

Caught them on some hair jigs that I made, tipped with a chart crappie nibble. They would not hit unless the nibble was on there, besides the few i caught on a beetle spin. They were definately some of the biggest I ever caught out there.

Goosepond Monster 04-26-2012 01:30 PM

Thanks guys.

I'm still trying to learn all of your lingo. Bluegill=bream, sacalait=crappie, chinquapin=red ear and now goggle eye=warmouth.

I think we're both the same as far as bass go.

I don't see a whole lot of goggle eyes up here, so that is pretty cool you caught so many of them.

Hookem, I thought about throwing a beetlespin yesterday but it sounds like you did better on the jig huh?

ElectricChicken 04-26-2012 02:44 PM

I was also using crappie nibblets on my jigs. They fall off in no time so i started just smushing some all over the jig and body and it seem to help.
A couple of the google eyes I caught were no doubt the biggest I had ever caught.

If you use tube jigs you can insert a nibble inside the body of the jig.

Shallow Runner 04-26-2012 02:57 PM

Great catch man.

Eatin ain't cheatin

Hookem03 04-26-2012 03:05 PM

Jiggin

I had my cork about 3-1/2 ft from my jig just poppin it every now and then. I just put the nibble on the tip of the hook and it held up pretty good. i know once it hit the water it wasnt sittin for long. Yea throwin a beetle spin is fun, but when you can sit in one spot for few hours and pull em in one right after the other it hard to change tactics.

Get a small hypodermic and put the nibletts in it, then just squeeze some into the tube.

I have one of these it's works good. The nibbles are to thick to push through a syringe.

Tip

I'll give you a tip about Nibbles I've been doing for years. Put "new" nibbles in a bisquit pan in front of the exhaust fan on the fridge. Let them dry till they are firm. They won't fall off nearly as much. A warning though, the wife will holler about stinking up the house(LOL). In that case you could sun dry them a bit. Caution don't "over dry" them.

jpeff31787 04-27-2012 09:19 AM

nice! Any bass guys catching?

Henderson always has huge frikin goggle eye!

ElectricChicken 04-27-2012 10:07 AM

Redaddiction, jchief, I make oil - Great advice on the nibblets and injecting. I use panfish assasins mostly so I can't insert. What lake runner said about drying them out is true, although I am not sure the Mrs. will get into the refrigerator deal. I put some out on the gunale of the boat and let the sun hit them for awhile and it sure does help them stay on the hook. when I smush em I just get em wet and then rub a dub.
