Best fishing shirt?

seeking y'alls thoughts about what, in your experience, is the best performance fishing shirt - UV protection, moisture wicking, ... and most importantly, is a light and cool shirt to wear. I've tried several brands, Columbia, UA, Bimini Bay, to name a few and am not too impressed. There are so many differnet brands out there one could go broke buying-to-try them all. Maybe there's not such thing, ... but it's worth asking the question?

I have a couple of Columbia shirts and in the extra hot days that we have been having I find they don't work as good. I have some Nike shirts that I wear when running and they have always worked so I started to use those out fishing and they work better than any performance shirt I have ever bought. The Nike shirt is called dri fit.

Columbia is the only way I roll

troutsammich 07-04-2012 10:37 AM

Try the Columbia freeze, makes me feel about 10 degrees cooler

I like my denali performance shirts. I have a n SC one in blue and a white marshworks one. I like em both but I stay cooler in the white one for obvious reasons. I also like columbia shirts. The $50-60 ones keep you alot cooler than the $30 ones

trophytroutman 07-04-2012 11:46 AM

Magellan for me.

Coppertone 07-04-2012 12:32 PM

$3 tank top from Wal-mart.

Tonka337 07-04-2012 12:38 PM

You should maybe try Simms fishing shirts. They are very light but, kinda pricey. I personally believe they are too expensive for my budget, but I find em on Ebay for almost 1/2 the retail price. Well worth it.

Faded cotton khaki or grey t-shirts... Best when they are a size or two larger than what you normally wear...

Save the fancy fishin' shirts for weigh-ins', BBQ's and picnics...

It was kinda funny seeing guys at the Texas CCA concert wearing their fishing shirts. I too just love wearing a 100% cotton shirt, but need the protection of long sleeves. May have to get me something in kaki, to go with my silly fishing hat.

X2, but rather pricey at $100 ea. retail. Our banquet shirts came from simms along with a deep discount. Ordering several more just incase the discount goes away.

Whatever you wear make sure and stay protected. Just had to get a spot of skin on my nose the size of a sharpie point frozen to kill the precancerous cells. It hadn't really healed since moving back from Hawaii. Doc said most of our sun damage has already happened by the time we hit 30. So stay protected and don't go by the "O that can't happen to me" theme. Prevention is a must for those who love the outdoors.

X2. All those fancy shirts ain't worth a crap wiping off your sunglasses.

gasdad 07-04-2012 07:46 PM

Wife beater undershirt-with stains on it. Lots of sun tan lotion so your arms don't get red like a crawfish and to protect them tats.

I second that....working and fishing in the sun for my whole live it is catching up with me. I have a spot on my neck where my hair line starts that is early stages of cancer. Having surgery on it in a month. The facemasks look goofy but they will save you, can't put sunscreen on under your hair. Unless your bald of course. ;)

Riceland 07-04-2012 08:24 PM

Columbia omni freeze, haven't found anything cooler, drier, and more protective.

The comments are getting interesting. Ruling out fashion and focusing on functionality. A shirt that actually helps to keep u cool. Cotton don't. When it's HOT u could fish naked and you'd still be sweating ur butt off. There's some hi-tech fabrics out there that do assist with cooling, UA heat gear for example ... Maybe that's the simple answer. But that doesn't have the UV protection.

hubcap28 07-08-2012 11:00 AM

Shirt made by gilz. UV SPF 60 protection great whicking capability and mesh sides to help pull in cool air. There made in FL somewhere had for sometime love theom

huntin fool 07-08-2012 02:41 PM

Red zone apparel. Awesome graphics, sun protection, light weight.

kyle35 07-08-2012 03:05 PM

I like the Magellan Aransas Pass long sleeve shirts. I get em from Academy for $20-30

BassYakR 07-08-2012 03:45 PM

16.99 on sale Magellan for me from Academy

RonnieF 07-08-2012 04:56 PM

Those Columbia omni freeze shirts are nice. Add an omni freeze hat and that really helps too. It has the flap to cover the ears. Everyone talks about necks/faces/hands but it seems we forget about the ears getting nailed by the sun.

columbia's are hot! I am starting to like the Under Armor version of the fishing shirt. A bit pricey but are much cooler than columbia's. JMO

omsdubose 07-08-2012 08:09 PM

Nike dri fit is the way to go

SquatchHunter 07-09-2012 09:55 AM
