Riceland poly speck call

Picked me up a riceland poly speck call yesterday, and it sounds amazing. Was calling last night int he house with it, and it takes hardly any air to produce 2-3 note yodels and the clucking is amazing. Also want to report that i saw a few teal in gc yesterday might be some locals, but it was still nice to see some.

cmcnabb 08-14-2012 09:30 AM

Here we go again....I agree, very nice to see some birds even if local. It was nice seeing all those mallards on that lake and hearing those hens cuttin up

Top Dawg 08-14-2012 09:31 AM

I have heard a few reports of some blue patch sitings. Hopefully it cools off a little for the opener lol

no doubt, but it don't matter i'll be out there sweating and slapping mosquitos anyway.

Top Dawg 08-14-2012 09:37 AM

Oh for sure. I just don't wanna have to be air lifted out of the marsh like I almost had to be 2 years ago lol

Micah 08-14-2012 09:43 AM

My speck call is better than yours, lol.

I know its not your intention, I was more or less joking. Glad your pleased with it. I was very impressed the first time I picked one up.

How is the weather feeling in the mornings in LA? Here in OK its is very nice in the morning. Averaging about 72 degrees according to my truck thermometer, a dry 72 degrees. When I get in my truck for lunch though, its a different story

Top Dawg 08-14-2012 09:46 AM

It's about 110 here in the mornings with a wind chill of about 115. Then around 3 it's 150.

Here's my recollection, it was 96 degrees, 80% humidity, not a breath of wind, and we're pirogued 500 yards through the marsh. Skin was on fire from the Off, had to reapply it every 10 minutes because the sweat would wash it away, and the deer flies ate right through it anyway. We got there early to the spot to claim it, only to be passed up by people that rolled up 10 minutes before shooting time, and after the living hell was over, the game warden was there to check us. Can't wait for the teal opener though!

I think outta 5 guns we had 11-12 birds. Don't really remember the count.

Top Dawg 08-14-2012 11:48 AM

The dudes that set up on us did good. I'm pretty sure it was hotter than 96. I literally didn't think I was gonna make it outa there.

Reminds me of a teal hunt I had last year. I like dummy, I PULLED my 65lb kayak about 500 yrds through a pasture loaded down with all my gear. Think I went through an entire can of OFF. Worst 20-25 minutes ever. When I put the kayak in the water, it was already shooting time so I stopped early to hunt some grass. Takes me 10 minutes to untangle the decoy strings, finally done with that, I'm pushing the kayak to the roseaus and not 5 feet from me a 7 foot gator takes off and literally scares me stiff!!! Took me a couple minutes to move after he popped up about 300 ft away in the pond. Couldn't get my mind right after that and only hit one teal, lol.

Pretty much the way I remember it too.

bgizzle 08-15-2012 11:48 AM

Man that sucks... Sure don't beat waking up at 445 rolling to the HARD levee of a rice field and driving to the blind dropping off everyone plus gear and then parking walking 300yds and sitting in a blind 11/2 dozen decoys set out by the time you get back and 10 min later you hear the first shot... Gives you goose bumps... It's on now boys 20min later your picking up decoys while someone grabs the truck... Lol that's the life

I know the redbone is $200 I think the riceland acrylic is a little less than that and the poly is under $100

Not my call or picture...just posted that for Chris(duckgogetter).

Ducktrickster 08-15-2012 02:54 PM

Picked up a cocoacrylic riceland for 150 at the outdoor expo. I think the regular price for wood or acrylic is 165.

RigRatNoMeaux 08-16-2012 12:34 AM

I have the redbone and absolutely love it. You can blow soft and LOUD if you want. I can hit all the notes high and low. Its real easy to blow. I have never used a riceland but I think the redbone would be a great call for beginners since it takes less air, and makes good callers even better.

i've owned the redbone also, and it's a great call but i was very unpleased with the customer service. The riceland i picked up sounds as good and is easy to blow just like the redbone.
