F150 power window?
I have a 2005 F150 which has power windows and I am having issues with driver side. I rolled the window down but when I was going back up it stopped and when you push button it dims inside lights like motor is in a bind, all other windows work and switch for this one had power but seems like something is binding.... anyone delt with this?
|
Regulator is bound up. Go to AutoZone or O'Reilly auto parts. Most likely you will have to get a motor and regulator. Also, you'll need a drill to get the 1/4" rivets out.
|
I was wondering about a regulator because how its acting, you think motor is shot also?
|
Motor is likely fine unless the gear is stripped but, most of the time, you can't buy the regulator by itself although, you can often buy the motor alone... I don't get it either.
|
Any idea what it runs price wise for parts, I am working straight nites and trying to build a house so I got to fix this before it starts raining but am short on time
|
If ya go to a shop, you're looking at $200-250. Ya go buy it yourself, its gonna be anywhere from $85-125 but, it'll take you a couple of hours or more if you aren't familiar with changing them.

LOL yep, never get ahead without having the rug pulled out from under ya feet

Paid 300 for mine 2 years ago. All went out with in 2 weeks if each other.
They just went out; gears stripped and the whole assembly that hold the glass up broke... Resulting in the glass also breaking. Yea.... That was some$$$$ Had to replace both front and 1 rear..... |
That would suck, if it weren't the driver window it would stay broke till I sold truck but its hard to function with it not working...... I need 2yrs of minimal repairs so I can buy a new truck and this ain't a good start
|
Get Bruce to change it for ya. :-)

Does it sound like it is binding or just dimming lights? The reason I ask is because I drive a '07 and my whole door panel on the driver side would not work when the door was open. Turned out to be a broken wire in the wire harness between the door and cab.
|
I can hear it trying and have gotten it to roll back down twice but stops at same point when I roll it back up like its in a bind
|
Mine was an 05 also
And the light dimming issue was on my truck too If I hit the windows, side mirror controls , blinker , locks etc my interior lights would dim. Never figured that out. Btw I ran a red top optima battery; so there was plenty of power. My mother n law had an 05 explorer that had identical issues. And on the f150 forum there are loads of similar issues with 05 models. |
The lights dim when there is too much of a load on the window motor. If you were to continue to hold it, it would blow a fuse. It's kind of like, in an older home, sometimes when the ac unit kicks on, the lights dim a little bit.

my 05...i have replaced the window reg twice on drivers side...gonna run you around $250 at the dealership. If you find a better deal let me know b/c i'm sure one of mine will go out soon...

it was Bolton Ford...
depending on the year you can usually do a youtube search if your a do it yourselfer... |
cant buy the motor and reg separate. comes all together and at O Reillys it ran me about $135 or something close. took about 30min to change out and there is no rivets you have to drill out. very simple to do. the hardest part was getting the panel off and thats not hard.

X2
you can get some door frame shims at home depot. pull your window up and shove em in to block your window up until its fixed. had to do this twice with a dodge and twice with my 05 f150 as well. all boils down to cheap plastic parts. i always have shims in my vehicles now. it will get you out of a bind and the are only a dollar and some change. |
Well I got lucky and hit the button and the window came up finally so least I am out of a bind for now
