LASIK surgery

Who has had it? Who did it? Any regrets? Do your eyes dry out quickly?

I've been debating doing it for the last few years and have always backed away. Tell me some things I need to know.

all star rod 01-04-2013 02:04 PM

Had it in 2006 in br.....best $2, 500 I ever spent.

calcutta37 01-04-2013 02:05 PM

If you can't see and want to JUST DO IT... Know a few peeps that did it and they said it was great.

specktator 01-04-2013 02:05 PM

Everyone I know that has had it say its awesome. If I had bad eyes I would definitely do it.

SaltERedneck 01-04-2013 02:11 PM

getting to the point where i need it..... -4.75 in both eyes.

j.e.hagen 01-04-2013 02:14 PM

I would love to get it but don't have the money and I don't wanna bargain shop for eye surgery

Montauk17 01-04-2013 02:20 PM

I thought about it but I just can't come to terms with getting my eyes blasted with a lazer.

its actually worse than getting your eyes blasted with a laser. They almost fillet the top of your eye and then do some other stuff.. I stopped reading once I read how they peel some layer off....

I'm still curious to see if anyone has complain about their eyes being dry. I read that its fairly common. My vision isn't terrible, but I have to wear contacts or glasses at all times. I hate contacts and I need to be able to wear safety glasses for work. They money isn't whats holding me back, I'm more concerned on everyone experience.

ckinchen 01-04-2013 02:27 PM

I had mine done three years ago, then I reffered the doctor two my two business partners, three employees, my wife, etc.... I have probably sent 12 or more people to the doctor that I used. Long story short, go and get it done, best money you will ever spend.

That being said DO NOT go to the cheapest guy you can find, my step dad had a really bad situation develop with a lowest bidder advertisement in Baton Rouge. I paid $4,500 for the procedure and my doctor also performed the same procedure on several local Houston athletes. I still see 17.5/20

Matt G 01-04-2013 02:30 PM

Did it in 2010 and have not regretted it. Both eyes were -8.75 when I finally did it and still have 20/20 today!! I only experiened 2 draw backs. My eyes are more sensitive to light now. I always have a pair of sunglasses on top of my head just in case and that helps. Also, it was a huge disappointment in the shower, because it sure felt a lot bigger :(!!! Still haven't found a fix for that, but the wife tells me it'll due :shaking:!

I've worn contacts without much problems for 8 years, but in the last year or so I hate them. I get headaches every time I put them in.. I've tried different brands and everything

thats also who I use.. I think its Oasis. They came out with some new Air one or something recently, I'm going to try those for the next 6 months. If I don't like that then Lasik for sure

Matt G 01-04-2013 02:49 PM

I used Dr. Jeff Singer. I think he does them out of BR and Laf. I did mine in Laf. The procedure lasted maybe 10 minutes and then 20 minutes observation. It was more of an aggrivation then pain. They gave me a huge sleeping pill and sent me home. The next day my eyes were VERY dry, but it got a little better every day while using the eye drops he gave me. Every once in a while I notice them geting a little dry, but I just flutter my eyes like a horny school girl and then it's all good. It's something you'll never regret. My mom had it done and one of my co-workers is going in Tuesday to get his done too.

I used him(Singer) in Metry about 10 years or so ago, he was off of I-10 and Clearview, in a medical center. He gave me a valium to make me not give a ****, then put numbing drops and antibiotic drops in.
Few min. later, he hauled me back, put something on my eyes that made me see black, then did it.
Took a sleeping pill and went across the street to a hotel I rented. Slept till morning and drove to Lake Charles.
I had to sleep with some goggles on the first night, so I wouldn't rub my eyes in my sleep.
I had to use drops for a couple days to prevent any infection.
Couple weeks later, I got some weed killer in my eyes. Went to Lady of the Lake in B.R. and the ER doctor said he couldn't tell I had it.
I have zero issues. Cost was around $1200 or $1400 back then. He had already done over 10,000 surgeries when I had mine.
He also does catarac surgery.
He is not an eye doctor that checks eyes for glasses and contacts. He is an eye surgeon.

Try shaving around it, you could probably pick up a half inch or so

good info Ray! I'm definitely leaning toward choosing this guy. I plan on setting everything up, and if I qualify, I will schedule with him hopefully before the summer. Thanks again, this was exactly the kind of info I was hoping to get.

My wife and I both had ours done in 2003 and my son in 2009. We all went to eye care and surgery center in baton rouge. (eyecaresurgerycenterbr.com) We have no regrets and no issues today with dryness or anything else. (other than old age) The website shows Dr. Jeff Singer as one of the doctors, if that's who you are leaning towards.

Awesome! Thanks, I am leaning that way.

I also had it done by Dr Singer in Lafayette about 4 years ago and have never regretted it. I never had any problems. It completely corrected my vision. Now I only have to wear glasses for reading which is normal for anyone my age.

BenFishing62 01-04-2013 06:25 PM

I had it done by Dr Singer last Christmas. It has been great. The only drawback for me is that sometimes when I have had too much to drink I try to remove my contacts!

Slidellkid 01-05-2013 09:13 AM

I had it done in Baton Rouge. Best money I ever spent.

My wife had it done about 15 years ago. Simply amazing. Dry eyes for a little while after surgery and that is it. Still going great 15 years later. I'll never forget sitting in the room outside of her surgery which had glass walls as it was, but they I watched her surgery on large TV screen. My 15 yr old daughter wears contacts and I would like to get it for her as soon as she is eligible.

VA Hospital in Alexandria. No problems. About $150. 3 visits at 50 bucks each. I have really good long distance site. I work on circuit boards so the 2x cheaters are a must for close up work and 1.5's for reading. But I can duck hunt in the rain and not wipe off the glasses every minute. No more foggy glasses on the deer stand. Go for it, you won't regret it. It does take a few days for the eyes to heal. It burns and itches for a couple of days, but you have to remember, you had surgery on them. Do what the doctor says & It'll be good.

Yeah, I am having it done as soon as my current supply of contacts run out. I'd like to thank all of you for what you have provided. It really gave me the confidence in the technology and doctors that I needed. So thanks guys, once again y'all prove how good of a site this is. I look forward to seeing y'all in the outdoors...without glasses or contacts on haha

Had Lasik done about 2004 in BR with Dr. Hebert. Had the personnal maping done on one eye that had stigmatizim(sp?). Two days later had 20/20 vision from both eyes. To date still have 20/20. Money spent was well worth it.
