Costa delmar repair?

Anyone ever sent any back to be fixed? I've got two pair that need a little work done and was just wondering if their prices are reasonable. One pair needs new rubber on the ear pieces and maybe a new lense if that isn't to spendy. The other set needs new nose pieces and maybe new lenses.

OhSoEasy 01-12-2013 11:49 PM

Don't waste your time on the lenses. They wanted over 100 to replace the lenses on my fathoms. But I hear its only 20-30 for frames and stuff like that.

PaulMyers 01-12-2013 11:57 PM

I think the pricing is on their website.

Holy crap! Never thought it would be that much. Might just have to get the nose/earpieces fixed. The main set I wear the most only has one little tick mark on the. From when they fell off my head into the gravel. Doesn't bother me enough to warrant $100. Thanks for the info guys

Chip Landry 01-13-2013 12:48 AM

Yea.. Had a buddy send a pair in for a cracked lens and they charged him $130 cuz the found a chip on the lens that wasn't broken and they "fixed" something on the frames!!!

FishHunter 01-13-2013 12:55 AM

Just looked on eBay and I think I'm just going to keep an eye out for a used pair with jacked up lenses and buy them just for the earpieces. Tiny chip in the lense doesn't bother me much but the screwed up rubber on the earpiece pinches the crap out of my ear at times

jchief 01-13-2013 12:57 AM

rubber is warranty. Sent 2 pairs back and they sent me new glasses both times.

FishHunter 01-13-2013 01:24 AM

Nice! Thanks for the info! Guess I should try that!

Mako19 01-13-2013 08:05 AM

My buddies dog chewed up the rubber on his. He sent then off and they sent him a brand new pair. All he had to pay was shipping.

I am thinking of sending mine in this month. They pieces that go over the ears are getting really loose and wobble. I tried to tighten thw screw with no luck.

Hope this helps you make your decision!

lilrab1989 01-13-2013 09:18 AM

the only thing that cost is the lens an the shipping if u have 580 lens witch are the real glass its 100 bc they change out both lens now if u have 420 its cheaper

yellow-xpress 01-13-2013 10:23 AM

I just got back my Zane 580's that fell off my hat and cracked the left lens, sent them off on a Thursday got them back the next Friday, in the repair they said there was also a defect in the rubber nose pads they sent me a brand new pair for $11.95. Not to bad, same thing happened to a pair of fathom 420's I cracked the lens and they charged me $60 for a brand new pair, guess it all depends on what they find and who processes the repair

RickLafayette 01-13-2013 10:33 AM

Unless the lens is damaged, they usually don't charge for repairs.I sent then a 4 year old pair of Fathoms because the rubber on the temples deteriorated over time. They sent me a new pair, no charge, stating they saw a defect in the color of the lens (which I had no problem with) so they were just going to send me a new pair. That's the best service I've received from a company in a while.

I got some blackfins I need to send in.....snapped in half when I was cleaning them. The rubber also came off over time hopefully they give me a new pair. I bought a new pair but like the blackfin better.

I had a broken hinge, sent them in and for around $50 or so they sent brand new ones back... The ones I sent in were several years old and discontinued, so I was able to select a new style...

Sent some Man-o-War frames in. Got new Rubber pieces and lenses paid like 50-60ish if I remember right. They sent me back a brand new pair of glasses.

Msucowpoke51 01-13-2013 11:47 AM

I sent mine in through ship to shore with broken frames and all I had to pay was shipping ($16) and I got a brand new pair ... I also sent my wife's off through ship to shore with a cracked lens and it was $60, hers are the glass 400 lenses

Ship to shore was great I would definitely use them again

I have had costas since 2006. I have a pair of fathoms that have had, ear pieces replaced(rubber wore out)main frame replaced (crack formed on nosepiece)and lenses replaced(coating was peeling)All I paid was shipping.

I have 3 other pair that have had work done also.... If its a manufacture defect or a piece wears out, I have never paid for a repair.

Now I severely scratched a few lenses; those I paid for.
Can't remember the amount ; but it was way less then a new pair.

I give them a 10/10 on customer service!!

For those with rubber on the arms, I was told it was sunscreen that affected the rubber. Don't know if true or not.

PUREBAY2200 01-13-2013 12:02 PM

They told me sunscreen will soak in the rubber and cause the glue to fail & discolor the rubber.
Also hanging ur costas on the rear view mirror can hurt the interior of the lense.... Exterior was made to stand up to the sun... Interior was not.

That's why they come in a case....:)

Must have been sunscreen that ate mine up cause I don't hang em

PUREBAY2200 01-13-2013 12:09 PM

I used to hang mine and never washed them after wearing sunscreen.... Now I wash em and dry em if i wore sunscreen and put em in a case in my center console or in a drawer in house.

I haven't bought a new pair in 2 years, mainly bc the ones I got are still in great shape and I love em!!

My tourtise shell man o war w/ green 580 lens are prob my favorite.

Yeah I hate using sunscreen started using a buff mask and long sleeve shirts I find it actually keeps you cooler in the extreme heat.

weedeater 01-14-2013 07:01 AM

I bought 2 pair new last yr, one from EBay and one from CheapandSteep for$75 each with free shiping and both have 580g lens and retail for over $250 a pair..... I can't see spending much to do repairs on them when you can find them at that price new

Kajundave 01-14-2013 07:24 AM

i had a pair my dog chewed up , Tonka talked me into sending them back, I did they replaced them for 50.00

I got some silver man o war w/ blue 580's and they are my favorite as well. I need to send them off, one lens has a crack from top to bottom and it's starting to get aggravating. I also need to send in my Fathoms, one of the arms is real loose.

Finfeatherfur 01-14-2013 10:21 AM

I have used the Costa Repair service on 3 occassions, two of which are completed - one pair there now. I have been completely satisfied with the service and the pricing for reparis. One was warranty, another pair I broke the frames at an LSU game and it cost me $30 w/ shipping. Luckily I have a pair to wear when I send one in to fix. I would be lost w/o my Costas!!! have never had a lens issue so can not attest to that.
