Cruise Conrol Went Out
I have a 2008 Silverado crew cab. At first the cruise control was acting up, as in sometimes worked sometimes didnt. Well now it just doesnt work at all. Has anyone had this happen before? Any idea if it is just a quick fix I can do myself or do I need to bring it to a shop? Heading to NOLA tomorrow for a wedding and cruise control would be nice. I always forget that it is broken until I get on the interstate going somewhere.

you check the fuse?
|
Not yet, but the way it kind of worked for a little bit and then didnt work at all leads me to believe its not a fuse but will check. Just got off the phone with the local chevy dealer and they said if the module went out its a $300 part:eek:

I'm not going to New Orleans in a 4 cylinder van. And I for damn sure aint letting her drive my truck. Not to mention just going to the grocery store with her is a near death experience, getting on the interstate with her is just torture.

Trade the truck in!! Problem really solved!!
|
On a serious note I did some research and discovered this is a common problem on the 08 chevy trucks and suv's. There is a brake light switch under the dash that obviously tells your brake lights to come on and also tells your cruise to shut off. The portion of this switch for the cruise signal is notorious for going out. Should be about a $26 part at the dealership that I can change out myself.

Reason I ask is my friend had a Texas Edition crew cab, I believe it was 09 but not positive. He had to have the engine rebuilt in it twice. After the second time he immediately traded it in for a Ford soon as he got it out the shop. I just told it it was having problems because it said Texas on it lol. |
Well I know to keep an eye out for mine. I have only had one issue with my 08. The back driver side door's automatic lock doesn't work. It went out a while back and Service "fixed" it. About 2 months later it was out again. I haven't had time to bring it in to fix it, so now I jump in the back seat to unlock. I look like a freaking idiot in the Wal-Mart parking lot!!
I hate to say it, but my next one may be a Ford! |

Crusie is still working but my back passneger door lock is out.
LCD if you didn't change out your upper control arms get ready to do that too. $150 in parts from Rockauto.com and about and hour and a half to fix. |
Last time I had brakes changed they said it was showing slack.
|
I used to be a chevy man. But since my last one I don't think I'll ever own another one. I love my new ford!!

Well Hell. If that many of us are having issues with our Chevy's, we should set up a saltycajun group buy. We might get a nice discount. I'm sure Bolton Ford would gladly accommodate us!! ;) |
Went on my lunch break and picked up the part for $15 at billy Navarre. Changed it out in the work parking lot. All I gotta do is make sure I have break lights before I leave today.
Glad I didnt take it to the shop. That would have been a $300 bill I'm sure. |
Yep, brake light switch. Just changed mine two weeks ago. Any auto parts store has it. Auto zone, orileys, etc. $16 bucks.

All those GM issues seem pretty minor. Rather that than the rear end and tranmission that went out in the 07 Ford I had.

Bad lock got changed out during an oil change. Cruise control I fixed myself in 10 minutes today. Only problems I have ever had. Truck runs great.

My gmc ran great. I just felt like one of those cartoons where they're driving and their vehicle falls to pieces one piece at a time and then they're sitting on the road in their seat and holding a steering wheel. That's what I felt like. But then my transmission started making bad noises and wouldn't go into gear every now and then. Had to off load it.

My dodge van is finally being retired. 400k on the odometer...this is my 3rd one and they all got over 300k of really hard, loaded down, towing safes miles...I wish they still made that 318, I'd buy another right now!!! My 1500pickup never had issue 1.....just needed more power. My cummins, same thing. Not 1 issue. Besides looks that is.......Yes....I am biased

My only issue with my truck is the rear passenger side power lock is out. My check engine light has been on for 35,000 miles maybe more (probably an o2 sensor) Other that that it's fine. It's an 08 with 75,000 HWY miles on it. I bought it for $24,000 out the door brand new. No way I could get a new truck simliarly equiped for under $30,000 and I'm not ready for another note. With that being said if I was to buy a new trck tomorrow I'd go with whomever gave me the best "deal" They all break, some more that others. |

Had some more issues with my truck last week. Got 'Service Stabilitrak' and 'Service Traction Control' lights while driving to work and that was the final straw. Got to work and told them that I'd be out most of the day. Went to Acadiana Dodge and picked out a truck.

Very nice.
Dodge has really stepped it up lately. I have been satisfied with my 2012. I have 35k miles on it with no problems to speak of. |
