Prop?
I recently changed the prop on my tohatsu 40. Now when I take off, if I'm not trimmed all the way down and accelerating the prop looses pull and sounds like its slipping. Is it possible that I put the thrust washer on the wrong way ?

Is it blowing out?
What do u mean blowing out?
Like it isn't gripping the water
These are the Picts of how it is together now

Looks right. Maybe there's not enough cup in your prop
Yes, it is blowing out
Need more cup. What prop did u put on?
It's a power tech 12p, it's what the guy from power tech recommended when I called
Sounds like you need more cup. Or your motor may be set too high for that prop
Does it do it when you take off trimmed all the way down?
1/5 times trimmed all the way down it will do it.
Sounds like its cavitating or not enough cup or pitch...I run a 14P on my 40....
What did you run before
13p factory aluminum prop
I run a 14 also on my tohatsu 40. What size boat it running on?
I went from 13p aluminum to 14p stainless same diameter....it should still run that 12p without blowing out...do you have a tach on it
1548 alweld semi v
No tach, and just had a jack plate installed. A friend said my jack plate is prolly too high but it was doing it before the jack plate
You should be able to run a 14 easy. I'm not too fond of powertech props though.
And it does sound like you're jacked a little high for that prop.

I see CajunChristian is viewing. Maybe he will give his expert advise on this topic.
drop it down an inch and see if it helps...mine is on a 15' alumaweld with a jackplate and i also have a 15p i run with no problem
Drop 1/4" at a time until the cavitation stops. All you guys running 14's, how many rpm's you turning those 14's?
D |
Danny you and I set up mine with a 14 Yamaha turning 6000

Hey guys I am looking for a set of throttle plates ( butterflies ) for a Tohatsu M40D set of carbs. Talked to Danny T. boats.net, called all boats shops. Any ideas? Ypu can e-mail me @ bobby.crochet@lyondellbasell.com with any help. Thanks, Bobby..
Clafleur, I would recommend a 13', we have put quite a few of those on this set up and it is running very good.
You could probably get away with the 14' but I do not think it will have the same balance of hole shot and speed as the 13'.
I have the same boat a CLAFLEUR except its a 16/48. Empty with just me i'm running 39, three people loaded down I'm running 33-34. I have a 13p powertech, do yall think I could maintain more top end with a load if I increased pitch? Kyle set me up good, I love my new rig, just curious.
