Public Announcement:: Seatbelts !!

I worked this wreck last night. I posted the link below of the wreck, claiming a life. Troopers stated to me that they are 90% sure the man would've survived had he worn his seatbelt.

Please do yourself, your family and everyone else around you and wear your seatbelt. I dont care if your checking your mail, wear it down the driveway, never know when it could save your life.

Prayers sent to family

"W" 05-23-2013 06:03 PM

1st off you can not say 90% sure he would of lived because he didn't!

I few out my truck doing 70mph with no seat belt and lived, while my side of the truck was crush to the seat I was in... so if I would of been in my seat belt and would of lived for some unknown reason, I'm sure I would never of walked talked or had any kind of life!!

So I believe a seat belt should be 100% your call when you are old enough (18) to msk decision over your own life

So you can not say a seat belt would of save you are not... because in my case the roof was in my seat

Matt G 05-23-2013 06:05 PM

I never wore mine until I started with the fire dept. talk about changed my mind quick after only the first month. Seen some horrible things that I would never want to happen to me.

cajunfisher 05-23-2013 06:09 PM

I think the guy in the story was over 5' tall. No comparison in the two accidents

You are right. It's not a gaurantee that it will save you, but in MOST cases it will. I do agree that it should be an adults option on if they want to wear one. The only person you are endangering is yourself. Same thing as a motorcycle helmet.

This post is freaking hilarious

Make it an inforced law that you can't text and drive and there'll be less need for seatbelts.

Accidents been happening long before cell phones, why do you think airbags and seatbelts were invented in the first olace

Jcredeur 05-23-2013 06:29 PM

In the fire service I've seen some the would have been better with it, some who it didn't matter. More often than not though speed was more of a factor than seatbelts. I always have mine on though....

I work in the collision industry. Rarely do we fix a txt and drive accident. They're mostly totals because of how bad the accident is.

Txt and drive should be fined like DWI. There would be many fewer doing it if it were that expensive. Texting and driving isn't only endangering the texter.

I'm good with that. Nothin like sittin at a stop sign with no other vehicle in sight except the one in front of you that is sittin there textin. Usually ain't "old" people, either.

Nothing like sitting at a flashing red light and a 90 year old is waiting for it to turn green :pissed:

Speed limits would too, we should have a maximum speed limit on all roads. Saaaayyyyy 70 on the interstate, 55 on smaller roads and even lower in neighborhoods and such.

Ban mirrors too, I've never been able to look forward and backwards at the same time.

We could make open containers illegal too and set a limit on alcohol levels, that will eliminate drunk driving incidents.

You've never broke the speed limit or driven with a buzz have you?

You typed all that to say what...that texting while driving doesn't kill? If so...you are lost, pal.

You sound pretty liberal. More laws and trying to hush my point of view in an open forum?

They do ticket for those items. It's called careless operations.

Yeah, I already said...I got that!! I never claimed that texting will solve all the highway mishaps, but, it will certainly lessen them. Like Corey said...accidents involving texting are seldom fender-benders. I saw the pickup that was driven head-on into by a woman that admitted in court that she was sending a text message and "I guess I just lost control". The best friend I've ever had was killed instantly in that crash. So, yeah...I am sorta ainti-cell phone!!!!!!!!!!

eman 05-23-2013 07:09 PM

as soon as jindal signs it any thing other than talking on the phone will be a ticket.
the popo would stop someone for texting and all they had to say was. i was checking my e mail or on FB. No more. Cant wait till the pull me over for using my GPS

eman 05-23-2013 07:10 PM

16 yo girl killed last tue while on her 1st solo drive. Texting.

I'm all for it, Bob, but I doubt it'll be inforced.

Had a 4-car pile-up right here in Bugtussle last Saturday because of texting. Luckily, nobody was going very fast. The police carted that dude's azz off up the skreet.

There's always gonna be people who disagree on an issue..

Saw lcpd "texting" while driving his police car...or he could been browsing the web. Could have been doing anything on his phone.

How are you gonna prove someone is texting?

Oh and that new fangled technology where you can speak into the phone and it converts to words, and will read them! Oh shiz

Goooh 05-23-2013 07:25 PM

It's silly to impose laws that can't be enforced on the entire population based on a few worst case scenarios.

They do write tickets for careless operation, but there is no quantifiable evidence showing that it does anything to prevent people from doing it or that it's makes the roads any safer.

These laws just make people feel like they saved someone and goes warm fuzzies to those who support them. I feel the same way about implementing laws like this as I do about gun control after 20 people of the 300 million in our country are killed. Realistically, ticketing cell phone users will do nothing for our safety...

Goooh 05-23-2013 07:26 PM

And excuse the typos, I'm driving.

Except make people look at the flashing lights of the person pulled over and get into a wreck themselves.

Rubbernecking should be a ticketable offense while driving.

And they can prove that how???

They better have a search warrant to view what I was doing on my phone!! And that's a fact jack

I would love to see them enforce that one lmao

No lawyer that ever read Salty Cajun and saw your crap would represent you, anyway.

If it should become law...they won't need a search warrant.

Do you have a link? Does it state that as a citizen I forfeit my property and rights if a LEO tells me to hand it over?
