Ditching cable! Direct Tv or Dish Network?

Getting ready to drop suddenthief cable.:grinpimp:

Just got some quotes from dish and direct tv on premium packages and wifi. Any comments or suggestions from the people that ventured over to the satellite side?

I have dish and am more than happy with it. Have cable internet and phone though

DUCKGOGETTER 07-30-2013 11:56 AM

Direct tv is the way to go. I've had service with them for 5 years and never had a problem with their customer service and the weather has to be pretty bad to lose signal.

sacalaitman 07-30-2013 11:57 AM

Dish or uverse all the way

I currently have DirecTV and I have a friend that got Dish so I have a little exposure to it... I didn't see anything with Dish that would make me want to switch.

I have DSL internet through the Phone Company because I've heard the satellite internet is not as reliable and quite a bit more costly.

If I had a choice of using Cable I would probably switch to Cable over satellite... mainly for the bundling.

DirectTV is the way to go. We to had suddentheif and couldn't wait to switch!!

Montauk17 07-30-2013 12:16 PM

I have direct tv at home and dish at the deer camp. Both are good direct tv is a little easier to use.

Direct tv

BIGV 07-30-2013 12:18 PM

I have dish and its good, no complaints. I have the sportsman package so I am good to go.

Most bang for your buck is Dish. I have had mine for 7 years...no complaints. My biggest complaint is losing signal during the Alabama LSU title game due to weather.

My only wish for cable providers is this.

Charge me a flat rate $50 just for basic service with everything included I get to pick up to 20 channels of whatever I want to watch. $2 a month for each additional channel. I ahte flipping on the TV with a claimed 235 channels or what ever and 190 of them or preview channels or shopping channels.

marshrunner757 07-30-2013 01:31 PM

Try Cameron telephone. I wanted cable and internet. In order to have internet, I have to get phone service! So I have a phone number I don't even use just to have internet! They piss me off!

i dropped DirectTV to get Cameron Communitcations ... im happy with CC, but i'm not a hard guy to please ... just let me record my shows, fix the problems i have and let me keep the channels i want

directv wasnt doing these things and CC does .. DirecTV jacked me around way too much

Montauk17 07-30-2013 01:42 PM

I had cox cable for years and they got crazy with prices. I was paying like 160 for cable and internet. Now I pay 70 for direct and 25 for internet with at&t. I was concerned with going to dsl after using cable, but it is not bad...much faster than dsl use to be. I don't have to pay for a house phone either.

Big pond 07-30-2013 01:44 PM

Direct has the football package and local channels just saw an ad on kplc that they were dropping off of dish

PathfinderNI 07-30-2013 03:43 PM

Just switched from Directv

to Dish...Dish offers MeTV which plays a lot of old shows that I like....I usually end up switching back and forth every two years so I can get new equipment!!

Might have to check in to that because I feel like I'm getting screwed every month when I get the bill. I have what they call the "Advanced Package" but I only get like 3 movie channels, that never have anything on. Not to mention the phone line that's not even plugged in!! I pay almost $180 a month and the only thing I really watch is the Military Channel and Disney for the little one.

Reggoh 07-30-2013 04:39 PM

I only watch Network channels for sports, ESPN, Golf Channel, Outdoor, Sportsman, Pursuit, Discovery, A&E, ABC Family, CMT, and my kids watch the cartoon channels...

Most nights I just watch MacGyver reruns on Netflix because there is absolutely NOTHING on TV.

I wish they would offer a "My Choice Package" that only bundles the channels that you WANT to watch... I like Swamp Snorkler's idea of just letting you pick 20 channels on top of basic cable... that would be plenty for me.

adamsfence 07-30-2013 07:58 PM

no kplc and fox on dish.......I had to switch awhile back that is my 2 biggest channels i watch. this is in lake charles area

Marsh.....this is not true. We have Cameron internet and TV with the DVD recorder package and pay $ 129 per month. No phone with Cameron.

The fiber optics cable and service has been very good.

Really? I'll be calling them today! So they just dropped phone service? No changes as far as equipment or anything?

Just got off the phone with them. In my area (Carlyss), you have to have phone service to have internet. Lake Charles and Moss Bluff you don't.

It's because you're on the fiber cable. If you would be using DSL then you would need a phone line because the DSL actually utilizes a phone line to bring the service.

Jordan 08-03-2013 01:07 PM

DirectTV. PM me and i'll give you my acct #, so when you call you save $10/month for 10 months, as do I.

FF_T_Warren 08-03-2013 02:06 PM

eatel and ATT arent bad. dish/direct tv sucks. And weve been through all the above names. cox is the best in my book as far as quality but its also far ahead the race as far as price too. you couldnt pay me to have direct tv or any other dish.

Fishaholic247 08-04-2013 12:51 AM

Five years ago we moved into our new house and four years ago and 335 days ago we called direct(stick it to you) TV to set up our move. Leave the dish take your boxes call us 30 days before your move and you wont have to be without your TV. They even had commercials running about it at the time. Which we did and got a confirmation number. The day after we move in on the scheduled install there was no direct tv van in the driveway! I called and they tell me there is no record of my phone call and it will be 2 weeks before they can get to me to hook up my TV.
I tell them to stick it and they proceed to deduct $170.00 from my credit card for breach of contract. WHO really broke the contract? I will never use them again. I had been a Direct TV customer for 5 years.
