2013 Christmas Drive.
Ladies and, Gentlemen, it's that time of year again! It's the time when we humbly open our wallets for the sake of helping others in need during the Christmas season. This is a season for rejoice and, for most, it is. For some though, this is when disappointment sets in for those who, for whatever reason, can't provide for their families. That's where we step in!
For the past several years, with the help of so many people here, we have been largely successful in putting smiles on the faces of families in need! This isn't just about giving presents to kids. We've given, to each family we've helped, a FULL Christmas dinner, fuel cards, gift cards to clothing outlets, gift cards to shoe stores fishing equipment and, the list goes on. Most importantly, we've given a moment of peace to folks who may not have otherwise had it. I've been on several of the deliveries and, I will admit, I've never left with dry eyes. We will be doing the format a little different this year, however. Previously, we've picked a family for the SW side and, one from the SE side of LA. Remarkably, last year, we wound up able to help a third family! This year, we will be simply helping as many as we can, regardless of geography. As I understand it, we already have one family located. If I remember correctly, she is a single mother with four kids who is fighting for her life with cancer. I want us to help this family! If ANY member of SC knows of a family in need, please, let me know! Again, geography won't rule anyone out, nor will race, creed or, reason for need. Help us find a family need! Help us raise some money to help those families! If you have any questions, concerns or, nominations, feel free to contact me here, at my office or, on my cell! Thank You, Corey Fisher 225-647-2772 Office 580-716-4995 Cell |
For those who may not be familiar with what we've done in the past, here's a link to last year's Christmas drive.

Also, I will note that we will try to shut down the fund raising a little earlier this year than last. It's very tough to start shopping for a family on Dec. 20th!
I've rolled it around and, I feel that stopping the fund raising on December 14th is enough time to get what we need done. My PayPal address is c_fisher79@yahoo.com. When you send a donation, please list your screen name in the memo because, we typically have a drawing for all the donors after it wraps up! In years past, there have been duck hunts, ammo and, fishing trips donated! |
Bump. Admin, please post as a "sticky" thread.

We are now at $605! Keep it going guys and, gals!

Tuesday bump.
Guys, we're running out of time! I appreciate all the support we've received already but, let's keep pushing! |
As in most years, as we approach Thanksgiving, I try and study the Pilgrims a bit to help provide my children and myself with perspective. Modern Americans are often too quick to see ourselves as heroes without fully appreciating the immense sacrifices and personal challenge.
Much like the Pilgrims, the MathGeek family chooses not to celebrate Christmas. Our reasons are much the same: seeing no Biblical mandate for the event, we prefer to look at every day the same. Don't misunderstand me, I am a man of faith who (as the Pilgrims) believes that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, bore my sins on the cross, and was raised from the dead. My wife and I simply choose not to celebrate the birth of our Lord on 25 December. However, as I hope I would not harden my heart toward kindness to those in need on any other day, why would I harden my heart on 25 December? I'll work out the amount with my family and get Corey the money within the next week. I am grateful to Corey and the other SC members for putting this together. Compared with their heartfelt efforts, writing a check is the easy part. Please pray about a gift and talk to your families. If MathGeek Scrooge can give to the 2013 Christmas Drive, you probably can too. |
C'mon folks ,i know times are tough. But anything you can give will help.
You don't know how appreciative the recipients are. You don't have to give $100 . What does it cost for a case of beer? Skip one and donate that. |
Do we have a family picked yet? How many folks are in the family? Where are they from? What are they into? Girls, boys, both? Older children, younger children?
This is useful info for those that may want to send gift cards for restaurants, retail, and the like, instead of sending cash. |
Most times we know number of adults and number of children . Unless someone on the site knows them personally we don't know what they are into or sizes. That is why we buy gift cards . This is a totally anonymous thing, other than the folks who deliver. No pics of the recipients or any names or locations.

We are waiting to see how much we raise as to how many more we can help. That said, if you or, anyone knows of a family in need, send me a PM or, call me. My cell is listed in this thread and, it's always on.;) |
Oh yeah, we are up to $705 now! Let's keep it going!
|
I swung by and talked to Corey a while ago. Up over $1k.
This is a great giving opportunity. Please talk to your families and pray about giving. I am reminded of a verse in the Bible, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." |
We are now at $1255! Let's keep pushing and, if you know of a family in need, please contact me by PM or, cell!
Much thanks to all who have participated! |
$1405! Now, we're getting somewhere!

I'd love to run it a little longer but, by the time everything gets transferred to where it needs to go, it's pushing the envelope on getting everything done. It's tough to shop on the 22nd or, 23rd for your family...It's nearly impossible to shop for someone else's family at that point!:work: |

Corey...I will stop by your shop tomorrow...
|
Corey I will Pay Pal you some $$$
|
Pox, ASR and, W, I appreciate it. We picked up another family today and, found out that our first one has already been sponsored so, it's back to the drawing board for a day or two.
Our family picked up today is a single mom with two young daughters and, her husband walked out and left them. From my understanding, he hasn't lifted a finger to help with his kids since he departed either. I feel this family is a good pick. |
$1855 and, counting. I just received a check from a member of another forum. I love the exposure our cause is gathering! This check came from CT!
|
I will name the other forum Smoking Meat forums. A few of us are members there. I am a moderator there and they asked about helping this year. I posted it a week ago and so far we have a couple of donations. SMF does their own Christmas deal .
But some members have elected to help us also. |

Corey, I'm assuming the wife is taking care of our end. I'm busy between work and remodeling a house we bought that we're not living in! Put me down for $100.

I believe we've found our second family. A local family of 6 (4 kids), lost everything in a house fire this weekend. |
