3 day fishing in Quepos, Costa Rica

We fished with Capt. John, who is a member on here. His site is http://www.queposfishadventure.com/.
First day offshore and caught 4 Sailfish. Second day we fished inshore and caught 3 Rooster Fish. Third day offshore we caught and released 8 Sailfish and kept 1 Wahoo. I had 2 more Sails that spit the hook and one other Sail that had the leader break. Total of 12 Sailfish, 1 Wahoo and 3 Rooster Fish in 3 days. We knocked off early the busy 3rd day, my wife was too hot and tired. We did have fun for a short day with the 9 big fish. We are definitely going back. Only downside of the whole trip was getting back thru Customs in Houston. Took us about 2 hours to get thru Customs and to the terminal for our flight to Lake Charles. We had a great hotel, great rental car and great fishing trip. Capt. John had a 3 day special going on. It was a good deal so we couldn't pass it up. We fished with Ballyhoo offshore and Lookdowns and Sardines inshore. |

Wife caught a nice Wahoo. We ate it.
It was the hardest fighting fish of our trip. When wife brought it up, another one was following it. Very tasty. Our hotel chef cooked it for us that night. |

We saw them jumping from 35 miles out all the way to 10 miles out on the way in. |

Small Sea Turtle we found tangled up in string, rope and sacks.
He will lose one flipper, it was cut thru the skin and meat all the way to the bone. Cut it loose and set free. One flipper just hung at the joint. |

Ray thats awesome! I'm adding fishing in Costa Rica to my bucket list. My son is going there this summer on a school trip. A friend of mine is going as a chaperone. I sent him a link to this post. Maybe he can bring a few of the boys.

We stayed at an adult only place called La Mansion Inn. It had about 18 or 20 rooms. Everyone who worked there knew our room and what we drank. When we went to the pool, the bar tender started making our drinks before we got to the bar. The chef cooked our Wahoo on the grill. Gringo John on this site is the capt. He and his Mate/Deck Hand Alex took great care of us on the water. I put the website in the first post for the charter boat. We did the 3 day package. http://www.queposfishadventure.com/ I think we had one of the top boats each day we fished. Everyone we talked to had zero, one or two fish each day. We had 4, 3 and 9 fish when we fished. We did have different boats and captains each day. Capt. John was our best boat/captain with 9 nice fish our last day. He told us we would catch 8 Sailfish, he was right. I didn't let my wife go in until we got the 8, just to see if we could get that many. The owner of the charter boats has another hotel in the same area as we stayed that could get us a 10% discount, but they were full when we were looking for a room. |
We have a lot more pictures. Will post some more later.
The boats were strictly fishing machines, not luxury boats. Clean boat, fighting chair, ice chests, fuel tank, engine, helm tower above and small storage/head compartment. Perfect for day trips. The tackle must have been the right choice. We trolled for about 30 minutes before we got a bite, next 30 min. we had 3 Sails caught and released. We only brought a few into the boat for pictures, the rest were cut off in the water. As soon as the fish was cut off, the lines were back in the water and we were trolling again. Sometimes we had a fish on before all lines were out. One Sailfish hit every teaser in the spread. The capt and mate was pulling in teasers to get it on a hook. |

Looks like a great trip Ray. My son AggieTiger and I went last May and fished three days out of Los Suenos. First day was 8 hookups/ 5 sails. 2nd day we targeted blue marlin and he caught and released one at about 400# then we caught a few snapper on way in. We stayed at the Marrriott. We're planning another trip in May as we speak bit I'll have to take a look at Gringo John's deals now.
Great photos. That 'hoo is delicioso'! |
Forgot to ask: Was anyone catching tuna?
|
great pics Ray. Thanks for posting.

We had a few hook ups that we lost also. I just counted the ones we brought to the boat.
We fished Los Suenos 3 times. Nice place, but actually caught more fish on this trip. If you stay at Los Suenos, the condo's are cheaper than the Marriott. If we would have stayed out longer on day 3, we would have caught more. My wife was just tuckered out. I fished 3 days with this charter service for about $500 more than just 1 day at Los Suenos. |
