Boga vs net

Are most of you using a boga grip or net or combo of the two these days? Why are you using one or the other?

AubreyLaHaye458 06-22-2014 10:09 AM

I use a net and my not-a-boga once the fish is in the boat. Smaller fish I just flip in the boat and grab em though.

I flip the fish in. If the fish is big in use the net. Once the fish is in the boat I use my cca fish grabber to take the hook out

Big red on topwater I'm sure gonna boga it.

I will boga them sight fishing or fly fishing just to feel like a purist

Bogas and Braids (copyrighted that) for photo ops only

Dogface 06-22-2014 11:10 AM

Boga only on reds. Flip the smaller trout in, net the larger specks.

Montauk17 06-22-2014 11:13 AM

I boat flip smaller fish and net the bigger one's.

MathGeek 06-22-2014 11:21 AM

We net 'em all. A net of the proper size and good netting technique will lose far fewer fish than flips and grips.

Sometimes after we get a dozen in the box, we'll get cavalier about it. But, even then we grab the leader and lift them in to control where those barbs are. 4-7 lb fish usually need a net.

I can't stop laughing at this

specktator 06-22-2014 01:58 PM

I will boga a red bc I hate reds and don't really care if I lose him or not. I'm gonna let him go anyway. I just fish with tops or suspending baits so I don't feel like fighting the trebles out the net for a red. A trout over 4, I will net. Anything else just flip it in.

When I'm wading I just carry a boga. Net gets in the way and I have seen many times someone go to net one and the trebles get caught in net before they get fish in and it comes off.

Natural Light Kid 06-22-2014 03:00 PM

I think pretty much everyone flip smaller fish in. Was just wondering about nicer size fish. My little one fishes with me a lot now and some of his have to be netted because he's not ready to flip them. I was just curious if anyone used a boga in place of a net.Would much rather have another rod in the holder than the net.

Boga vs net

It's just more work to boga them. You have to have that big fish worn down. Hard to grab that lip when they still fired up throwing their head around without getting your hand on the line. And of course the longer it's in the water the better chance of it coming off or break you off with all the tension. If it's a nice fish and I'm fishing from boat, I'm netting it always.

I only fish with cork grips so I don't have to worry about big trout. Flip or bust

If im in a boat and its a good fish 100% net, then I'll grab it with the boga to take hooks out

speck-chaser 06-22-2014 04:36 PM

I use boga, then net it just to be safe :D

Have you tried tying your braid straight to boga (no swivel) slow retrieve. Prob catch a lake record.

Mad flippin' skills son!

BuckingFastard 06-23-2014 06:29 AM

i think this site is partially to blame for most of the "fads" that are used... such as boga for everything.... braid for all. everyone thinks it necessary to weigh every 3lb trout they catch, then take a selfie. follow the leader. its bass fishing all over again.

The boys take 10-15 minutes rinsing off the rods, the ice chests, and the boat after each trip. The slime has broken down into almost nothing by the time for cleanup and does not add to the time. Getting the salt off to prevent corrosion is the main reason for rinsing.

C-Bass2mouth 06-23-2014 01:25 PM

Being a bass guy I'm used to the ol swing, but last year I broke not 1, not 2, but 3 good bass rods on eating size red fish trying to boat swing em. Habits are hard to break, especially if you are desperately trying to boat more than the guy with you. And if you're stupid. Do own a prety gnar pair of CCA red handle express super ultimate boga grips though, still have plastic on them. Been my white elephant gift 2 years running.

Needle nose pliers........ But I'm a cheap @$$ and never learn my lesson.

Natural Light Kid 06-25-2014 02:05 PM

Any suggestions on where to store a net in a bay boat besides a rod holder? Anyone using a collapsible type net? If so what kind/size?

AubreyLaHaye458 06-25-2014 02:19 PM

Mine just stays on the floor behind the center console or on the seat when getting a lot of use.
