New duck blind build

Building a new duck blind for my lease. Dimensions are 10' long x 35" deep. Bench is 8'. Will wrap with hog panels and use salt grass "brooms" to brush with. Dog stand is on right side. My BIL is an Army sniper so he decided he needed to camo paint it!

TroutSupport.com 10-08-2014 04:24 PM

Wow... sounds like you could drive a boat into that thing? and park it. lookin good so far.

Matt G 10-08-2014 07:59 PM

Very nice. If you need someone to help you test it out, I'm game! I'd fit perfect on that bench. Lol

Is that in the ground?

Kill the roseau while you can.

Paulox86 10-15-2014 12:50 PM

It is sitting at the waterline supported by 2x6's. The roso will get a trim this weekend.

Why kill the Roseau ?

capt coonassty 10-15-2014 01:13 PM

Spreads too easy, eventually gets out of hand.

Paulox86 10-15-2014 01:50 PM

Gotta spray it a few times a year. May, June, and August. Put out 100 gallons of Erasure/24-D, and spreader sticker over three ponds and trails three trails each spray.

ScubaLatt 10-15-2014 02:44 PM

Thought about going with that design but decided to go with platform this year. If I like where I am then I'll go with the sunk blind.

Paulox86 10-15-2014 09:35 PM

I built a platform last year. Wanted something different this year.

Built one very similar to Scuba's last night. Scuba, you plan on having the floor under water? Or you gonna raise it to water level? Still deciding on what I'm gonna do. Tired of the barrel blinds. Can't move worth a crap in them.

BGcoreg 10-16-2014 10:56 AM

Are most of yas boat hides directly behind the blinds? How do ya do the entrance to the boat hides , like doors

Floor will be just at water line. Here's a pic of it in place. More work to do but getting there.

Kitchen? Reminds me of how weird us duck hunters are. We work out butts off to build blinds and take care of our spots. We spend hours rigging decoys and grassing blinds. We buy all the latest hunting clothes and gadgets we can afford. Just to go hunting and try and shoot a limit as fast as we can.

Wow nice blond I bet that was a beast to grass up.

We built a 16' X 3' platform blind this year, 2ft for the dog,2ft to step off boat with tennis shoes and 12 to hunt in.

So far we have sunk about 12 bales of hay, and transplanted a lot of grass.

We built the blind on the edge of marsh, front has good vegetation but the back was trampled in the building process.

Sooo had the bright idear to build a "raised bed" for the Salt Meadow Marsh Grass behind the blind about 2ft off the ground to help break up the blind and give us 2 levels of grass.

We built the frame for the "raised bed" then layed down grated fiberglass.
Then we laid burlap on top grated fiberglass and used 2"X6" for the outside frame to hold the vegetation.

After the frame was built I spread out a block of peat moss, wet hay and mud on the burlap before we transplanted the grass.

The goal is to grass this blind once and hopefully the grass will take root and grow.

All that being said I will prob never build a platform blind again, its good for the kids and comfortable but it's a mother #### to grass.

I will try to post some pics later.

Made another trip to the duck marsh Friday. Put some more work into blind. All it needs now is brush and it'll be ready to hunt!

Paulox86 10-18-2014 09:59 PM

We did too. Put another barrel blind in and tore an old one out. Blew a bearing on the trailer on the way home. Now gotta add another chore to the list for work needing to be done tomorrow. Outer bearing is gone. Luckily the tire and hub stayed on. Hope axle is ok and not galled too badly. We will see in the morning.

How do you get to the blind? Does someone drop you off and pick you up?

I have a pirogue on an island about 75 yds away. I drop off hunters and pirogue back. Hide pirogue behind blind. Beats having to build and brush a big ole boat blind!
