2007 16' blue wave freedom vbay boat.
Hey guys I'm hoping to get some answers on here because I tried to get some answers from the dealerships of blue waves but they never got back to me out of the whole week. This is the situation I'm having which is I got me a 2007 16 foot blue wave center console freedom vbay boat recently and I just put on a 6 inch manual jack plate for my 2005 90 hp Johnson bomberian outboard motor but before I even got to put the motor on someone mentioned to me that my shaft is too short which is 20 inch shaft so I been trying to figure out if that motor with the 20 inch shaft will be okay to use on that type of bay boat???? Someone else mentioned to me saying if the plate on the motor line up to the screen cover that goes over the live well hole on the back end of my boat at the bottom I sud be okay but I want to be safe without burning up my motor if it's not low enuf to be able to piss out water to keep the motor cool.i even checked the jack plate to have it low enuf but not sure what is the depth of my boat on the back end. I'm hoping if anyone had this same type of situation can be able to give me some answers . Trying to save money and timing .:confused::confused:

Trying to follow you here so bear with me.
Question, did you have the motor on the boat before the jackplate? Also, what are you trying to accomplish by adding the jackplate? |
Wish I was fishing no I didn't have the motor on it I had my own motor and went looking for a boat that didn't have any motor on it
Also for the jack plate I didnt realize my shaft was 20 inches cux I wanted to keep my motor up whenever I'm in shallow water to be able to get on plane faster than digging up mud .

I looked around and couldn't find the transom height on your boat. Measure the length from the top center of your transom to the bottom of the V. From that measurement we can tell you if your motor will work.
Another way would be to hook your motor on the transom and see where your cavitation plate is in relation to the bottom of your hull. use a yard stick or something straight and hold it against the bottom. then measure the distance between the bottom of your plate and the yard stick. If you are 2 inches or below on your measurement your motor is good to go. |
what is the boat/motor doing to effect you? if its pisssing water its cooling.
Trust rivers no I haven't put my motor on yet but don't want to risk putting it on and buying trottle box and etc then put my boat in the water to find out my motor shaft isn't long enough to have my suction in the water as I get on plane .
Cavitation plate should be even with the bottom of the boat, start about an inch to a half inch below and work your way up....If the transom is too tall you might be able to use it to lower the motor...probably not though
Wish I was fishing yea I know what u are saying but on my boat I have a little bit of a square gap it's not a tunnel hull but kinda hard to explain its like the edges are even then when it meet in the middle it a square gap where the live well hole and another hole to flush out water if rain water get in the boat . Wish I cud take a pic but don't know how to post it on here .
Bdub the transom is pretty low if I cud find a pic on the Internet and post it on here it cud help out in a way
I can't figure out why I can't post a pic I found online and took picture of it with my I pad then saved it with my other pictures but won't let me post it on here but must use a url. I'm not too good with technology
can you take a pic of your boat and motor so we can what you are looking at.

!!!!
i may be wrong but i believe 25" shaft motors are usually higher horse powered motors, that boat is probably rated for a small motor that only comes in 20" shaft lenghts
I will upload tapa talk soon and will take a picture of it tmw if it's not raining all day . Cux it will make it much easier to see than just explaining with words . Fish fighter yea I figured the same thing but some of my friends are saying they think my motor shaft is too short for that 16 foot but I'm having doubt in them but still rather be safe than buying all the parts and put it together and as I go test run it and find out it's not long enuf to keep the bottom unit underwater as I take off on plane
Guys I took pics of the boat on my iPad and joined tapatalk it won't allow me to post pics
Get a tape measure and measure the transom like wishin said, that is the easiest way, i really doubt a 16 foot boat would have a 25" transom, check the plate inside the boat that says what the boat is rated for
fish fighter i know what it rated for but i prefer my motor cux i already had this motor on a 16 foot bass boat rated for a 80 hp but this blue wave boat is rated for 75. i didn't have no trouble using my 90 on the boat i had before but now want to use a bay boat.
finally my wife helped put the pictures on for me on here. so here ya'll go that is what I'm dealing with here...
Ok then let your wife go measure the transom if she is the smart one, hahahaha
Just messing with you on that last one, i dont believe that a 75hp motor is made with a 25" shaft only 20" so i would say you are good to go with your 90
fish fighter good one got me laughing and i even asked her her reply was that is ur business to deal with. also i hope ur right that my 90 hp 20 inch shaft is good to go on this boat but will try to get some free time someday since i have three kids to keep company. just hoping there some answers on this type of boat and its depth is good for a 20 inch shaft. what if i had a 19 foot blue wave or 20 foot wud that make it to the point of where A 25 inch shaft come in or it depend on the bay boats itself with their v bottoms.... cux from what i sent with the pictures it doesn't seem to be a deep v on the back end.
25" shaft is usually on really big boats or catamarans
because this is my first bay boat i have owned. i always had bass boat. so i am learning more and more with a bay boat cux its very different from a bass boat as we all know. so this part is the biggest part I'm learning now since i have some negatives and positive comments with putting my motor on or that my motor isn't long enuf to use on this boat. just trying to do the right thing once than spending money and end up it doesn't work that way or etc.
Sorry guys, I have been at a retreat all weekend. It looks like you will be good from your pics. If you are not too fat from Broussard, Send me a PM and I can go take a look at it with ya to be absolutely sure.
The boat is made for a 20" shaft.

Actually so you don't think I'm condemning you my boat is rated for a 60 HP....I have a 70 HP...on it...I inquired to wlf years ago and they didn't care....Federal waters will ticket you for over HP...Coast gaurd will ticket you for over HP...Now from what I understand WLF will ticket you for over HP...If there is a boating accident and you are over HP. you will be at fault.....Not condemning you...I was told the manufacturer rates the boats and if they rate them lower the motor is cheaper so sale price is lower....
Lil bubba ur not condemning me at all there a reason why we have this website to help out one another and I'm glad u explained that to me very clearly cux I was pretty sure I Wundt have any trouble by the wlf but wasn't sure how it worked by coast guard but glad I ain't gonna be on federal water . Mostly in bay and marsh also in spillway for freshwater fishing.
Juicy is that right and can I ask how sud u know for a fact ? Did u have a boat like mine or what?
Wish I was fishing it's not a plm at all we all have a life beside being on here at all times and how was the retreat? Also yea I may will pm ya to have ya come check it out but I'm hoping I can get my buddy with his big jack to pick up my motor which is on a horse stand at the moment so I'm hoping nothing will stop me from putting it on this Saturday . From there sud be able to line it up and see for sure that its ok with a 20 inch shaft.
Retreat was great. Main theme was stepping up as the man, leader of the household and being a Godly man. Isolated some areas where I have been lacking, and have the tools to fix.
Understand with the motor and...just sayin...wouldn't be the first time a group had to man handle a 300lb motor on to a transom. Holla, I looking forward to it. |

Hey wish I was fishing I put on my motor yesterday and took some pic I'm still not sure if it's low enough or what????
Low
Quote:
Looks too low to me |
Bring it up about 6", your "dragging" right now.
Hmm where the plate suppose to line up then ? Cux right it its lined up right below the hole with the screen cover over it .
Well I'm confused cux I looked up different websites and most are saying line up the plate to the bottom of boat transom but now I'm getting feeds saying too low from fish fighter and b Sealth so can y'all tell me how is it too low or dragging? Cux I want to be sure it's able to use for my motor before I actually buy a throttle box .
You can use the motor it's good.
When mouthing an engine on the transom you want the cavitation plate even with bottom of hull when the engine is trimmed level. But there's 2 things about your setup will allow you to run your engine higher: 1- The small "pocket tunnel" 2- The jackplate. |
Thanks b-Sealth I am feeling better now knowing that I do not need to change my motor .
Yes

So I sud lift it up 6 inch b- Sealth?
Fish fighter at u trying to help me out is all that matter
