Types of Mud Tires

I have been looking at some mud tires for my truck. I really like the Firestone Destination MT but i am really just looking right now. If anyone has any other info about the tires or another brand i would love to hear it

How much do you want to spend? For mud grips, you can't go wrong with Buckshots for the price. Just don't get Goodyear Wranglers!!! Those are the absolute worst tires I have ever had and I had 2 friends that have had the same issues with them.

SULPHITE 01-06-2010 09:48 AM

Hell yeah can't wait to take ford for mudding adventure!!!

speckinabox 01-06-2010 09:49 AM

i dont have a certain price but i want something that is good in mud and good on the road as well.

speckinabox 01-06-2010 09:50 AM

i know you cant wait you just want to tear it up!!

SULPHITE 01-06-2010 09:50 AM

I can't ever have anything nice!!!!!

speckinabox 01-06-2010 09:53 AM

you read my mind.

longsidelandry 01-06-2010 09:54 AM

I know a few guys that have the **** Cepek Mud Country's and they are both VERY impressed with them.

speck-chaser 01-06-2010 09:55 AM

maxxix buckshots are good. I had gotten 40k out of mine on my toyota. the only thing was the noise. As Im sure with most mud tires, as they wore, the louder they got. Im mostly on the highways,so didnt enjoy the noise,so now I just go with a good treaded all terrain tire.

speckinabox 01-06-2010 09:57 AM

Yea i saw those, i like those too. I dont mud ride i just need something so whenever i do get into some mud i can make it out. Pulled a buddy out of his backyard for new years and factory tires did the job but tires were spinning. Just wont cut it.

That's one thing I never had a problem with while I had Buckshots. I had 4 or 5 sets of them on 3 different vehicles but never could complain about the noise. I would also rotate them every other oil change and get them rebalanced about every 6 months.

LaAngler 01-06-2010 10:02 AM

recently i have had bridgestone dueler m/t, BFG all terrain t/a ko, goodyear duratracs

I really liked the BFGs, i know they make a mud terrain tire, may be worth checking out. I've had pretty good luck with goodyear. who knows.

a good set of all terrains and a warn winch should be standard on every truck, i need a another winch

I have some Mickey Thompson ATZ's and can't complain about them.

yeah it's on my wish list for sure, I had a nice warn on my old z71 i was stupid enough to sell it. Miss it more than any of my X girlfriends.

Only bad thing is people constantly calling to ask for favors all the time.

speckinabox 01-06-2010 10:29 AM

My buddy had toyo open country a/t on his diesel and the tread wore quickly. I think if the tread would wear that quickly in all terrains than the muds would do the same.

LaAngler 01-06-2010 10:32 AM

i heard the nitto terra grapplers wear pretty fast too

I would think so too. I got the Mickey Thompson's because I have talked to a few guys that have had these same tires on diesels and they got 50,000 + miles out of them.

Jordan 01-06-2010 11:02 AM

I have nitto mud grapplers on my jeep... their worn down due to pavement.... i also think i have (2) slightly used 38" muddin tires for 15" rims that i'll sell for a good price... im not sure the brand.. i'll look when i get home... $100 and their yours

I want to say their buckshot mudders... but im not 100% sure..

adamsfence 01-06-2010 11:11 AM

i had the kumho mt on an f250 they last along time and was very quiet. they only come in a few sizes so you would have to check to see if they fit

cmdrost 01-06-2010 11:59 AM

I had the BFG AT's and the Firestone Destination A/T's on my old F150. Really liked them both. Worked fine, since I was on concrete, gravel, dirt roads 90% of the time anyway. Worked fine in the mud too.

I didn't want anything noisey! I'm looking for some for my new truck. Leaning towards the Nitto terragrappler A/T's. BFG's are too danged expensive for 20" rims!

fishmaster911 01-06-2010 12:19 PM

When I had my z71 a few years back I put 37x12r17 bfg m/t on it and they went for 1,200! Ouch what was i thing! Lol I would hate to buy them these days!

I put some 33x12.50r17 mickey thompson atz's a few months ago and paid either 1,000 or 1,100. The set of tires I bought before that was some 35x12.50r16 buckshots for my tahoe and paid 600 for them lol.

meaux fishing 01-06-2010 03:40 PM

They have good prices and the review system is very solid even if i buy tires from a store i still check out which one i want on here

gonzalesdave 01-06-2010 03:53 PM

I have a set of IROK radials on my jeep. Several trips to Hot Springs and other offroad parks in addition to 25k+ on the pavement and still have some tread left. Pretty quiet on the street and great offroad. I will be getting another set soon

cmdrost 01-06-2010 04:10 PM

I had 70k miles on the BFG A/T's I'd get them again, but they are almost $400 a tire now for the size I need.

speckinabox 01-06-2010 04:17 PM

I have been looking at the Maxxis Bighorns today and really like the way they look. Also the price is pretty reasonable.

per tirerack:

305/55/20 BFG AT - $379

305/55/20 Nitto A/T - $256 (priced locally) This is what I am leaning towards.

BTW - This is only the next size up from factory size on the 2010 F150 4x4 that will still fit without a lift.

speckinabox 01-06-2010 05:02 PM

chas you ganna put a leveling kit on so you can get that size?

cmdrost 01-06-2010 05:13 PM

I was told I didn't need the leveling kit for the tire, but I put one already anyway. Just made the truck look right ya know. Those mentioned above are 33's. I was told I could fit 35's with my leveling kit, but don't want to F up the gas mileage. So I'm sticking with 33's. Twisted did my leveling kit for me.

speckinabox 01-06-2010 05:19 PM

yea i was looking at putting one on my new truck too. i was told the same thing about tire size but i think im going to stick with 33's also.

speck-chaser 01-07-2010 12:20 AM

I put a leveling kit on my new tundra, Im running the 20" rims with some nitto terra grapplers. Prolly got about 20k on them right now. they ride really well on pavement. Almost got stuck with them at the lease last week. Dont seem to clean off very well in the mud. A few good spins and your all slicked up.

cmdrost 01-07-2010 09:27 AM

speck-chaser -

tires make any noise on the road?

BA1125 01-07-2010 01:21 PM

Can't go wrong with the Toyos even though they are high.
-Toyo MT (mud tire)
-Toyo AT (alterain)

Nitto just released a new mud tire comparable to the Toyo. It is supposed to be really quiet and have a good wear characteristics much like the Toyos.

The key to any tire lasting is ROTATION ROTATION ROTATION...
Rotate at every oil change, and they will last...

cajunforeman 01-08-2010 10:05 AM

I have the 33 toyo open country m/t's on my f150 and i love them so for. I have about 10k all highway on mine and I don't have hardly any tread loss at all. I did alot of research before I bought these tires and it was between these and the iroc's. I got these just to be different. I do rotate every 5k though. Like what was said above if you don't rotate don't expect a tire to last

Goatro 01-08-2010 12:39 PM

Toyo MT. I am fixing to put some Toyo MT's on my truck. 35 x 12.50 x 18 cost me 1200 even to the door. They look great and several of my friends have them on there trucks. They have gotten good milage considering the aggresiveness. They are not loud as the Nitto AT's I have on it right now. It's only money. Good luck.

cmdrost 01-08-2010 02:00 PM

"It's only money. Good luck. "

I like your style! haha

longsidelandry 01-08-2010 02:01 PM

That's right, you can't take it with you when you're gone!!

BIGJ 01-08-2010 02:59 PM

#1 Toyo Open Country MT
