CCA Banquet Tonight

I was invited to a CCA banquet tonight, we had a great time. I know there are some of you against them but it was hard to pass up free beer and food. I was surprised how cheap and how expensive some of the items went for. This was the first time I had ever been.

Must've been the Cenla banquet. Wish I could've made it but had a conflict. I do enjoy these events. The DU ones also. CCA and DU aren't perfect but without em we'd be screwed.

How so? Like, how would we be screwed?

jimbass 06-02-2017 10:32 AM

Two examples:

Without CCA gill nets would still be in the water and Redfish would have never been put on game fish status. You would not be catching trout and redfish today without this legislation pushed by CCA.

These are the two most obvious examples but there are many more.

That was GCCA. CCA tried to ban bow fishin for redfish. Got the trout limit reduced on big lake against biological data that did not support that measure. Got a limit placed on triple tail with not one single fish assessment of the population. Has not lifted a finger in support of our red snapper season.

Anyway, just looking for anything besides dumpin a load of rock in da lake.

jimbass 06-02-2017 11:29 AM

It is the same organization just expanded beyond the Gulf Coast so they dropped the G. You asked and I provided two concrete examples that cannot be disputed.

No one will agree with everything any organization does but the easiest thing to do is complain about others while doing very little yourself.

btw, rocks provide habitat, there should be a limit on all fish species, and harassing redfish at night time probably isn't the best thing for rod and reel fishermen.

Two separate organizations. Limits on fish is fine, but don't pull one outta your a$$!! Rod and reel fishermen harassing redfish is probably not the best thing for bow fishermen.

jimbass 06-02-2017 11:50 AM

you are totally wrong on two separate organizations. do a little research.

see below article regarding the red snapper. Another example disputing your earlier claim.

http://www.joincca.org/articles/846

when ignorant people complain it becomes "white noise".

What have you done?

Yes you're right, I should have clarified and said CCA Louisiana, who has never shown their face in Baton Rouge regarding the red snapper debacle. What have I done? I wasted my money on CCA for a lot of years and watched them limit my opportunities over and over. I didn't waste my money very long on DU. I was one of the original founders of our local Delta Waterfowl Chapter here in Lake Charles. What have you done?

jimbass 06-02-2017 01:34 PM

At least you have the opportunity to catch trout and redfish, hence my original first two examples.

What have i done? Do a little research on the last name and you will see.

Again, all the organizations you cited have made things better for all of us. you don't have to agree with all of their tactics or causes they choose to champion but ask yourself this, "are we better off with them?"

The answer is easy.

Lmao
GCCA ban Gill nets not CCA

And if you think I could not catch a trout because of CCA you have zero clue about trout .
Can you tell me what CCA has done for trout ?

Good thing I have no plans tonight. I got some beer and popcorn. Let'er rips guys. FYI, CCA was in Baton Rouge last week meeting with the governor and wildlife and fisheries. Despite the CCA stance on red snapper limits being controlled by the states, it appears bigger money guys have our leaders' ears.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of changes to Big Lake. Maybe the oyster issue has brought enough attention to possibly get some rock back in the washout and 9 mile.

Broke Down 06-07-2017 10:47 PM

Educate me a little.

Just how much oyster could you harvest with tongs in Big Lake? Example, realistic amount with a family of 4 people. I know dredging you could have a very high yield. Some of you know the lake much better than most.
