Dog's Tail isnt looking good

She woke me up about 2am the other night whining and crying i couldnt figure out what it was until i picked her up to put her on my bed and touched her tail. She finally just went to sleep but the next morning her tail was swollen and limp. 2 days later its still swollen at the base and just kind of hangs there. When she gets excited it will stand up and wag but only when i get her extremely wired up. She can feel all the way down it so its not numb, just swollen and limp. It hurts her for sure bc when you try and touch it she tucks it but doesnt hurt bad enough to where she will scream when you grab it.

Any ideas? If someone can shed some advice that would keep me out of the vet's expensive company it would be much appreciated, but if it aint better by tomorrow ima bite the bullet and bring her.

May be some type of infection.......better bring her to the Vet.

speckinabox 01-20-2010 10:20 AM

The dog also might have gotten it caught or something fell on it or maybe even bit. It just might be sore for a couple of days but i would take her to the vet just to be sure.

Shawn Braquet 01-20-2010 10:33 AM

its not worth taking a chance thats for sure...at least my opinion, too much love for my dog for him to be in pain any more than he has to

yak'em-n-stack'em 01-20-2010 10:57 AM

you cant blame it on my pond, because i swam in it with ladi monday,

i felt bad for her after that, that water was freezing

Dude, you're supposed to make the girls jump in, not jump in by yourself!

fun w son 01-20-2010 11:48 AM

My friends dog had the same problem, when they took her to the vet they found a very thin monafilament tide around it. it had grown into the skin were it couldn't be seen.

lol I used to go to a Biology class just because of the chick I would sit next to. There was always 2 guys with her, 1 was her cousin and he was cool but the other dude was the cousins friend and he was interested in her but she would ignore him and talk to me before/during/after class. That dude hated me with a passion, he ended up dropping the class :*****:

yak'em-n-stack'em 01-20-2010 11:55 AM

haha, i hang out with this girl alot, and her bf hates it, he tries to act all tough, but it makes him feel awkward not me

longsidelandry 01-20-2010 11:56 AM

Ok, I think we hijacked soggy's thread enough, back to the dog lol

SoggyRedNeck 01-20-2010 11:59 AM

on the way to the vet now

yak'em thats my nugah, knew you was a lady's man son.

Tell that chicks boy friend that me and you had a field day and piihb...see what he says bout that

yak'em-n-stack'em 01-20-2010 12:00 PM

i was about to say the same. Just cut her tail off then it wouldnt be a problem? haha

Id check for any scars or open wounds around the tail

SoggyRedNeck 01-20-2010 12:06 PM

way ahead of you, we gonna see what the doc says, hopefully they wont cut it off, she wont have a good rudder after that.

She get hauled or stored in a smaller than normal kennel lately? Mine broke her tail in her travel kennel when she was a puppy. Was fine after a few days but since then it's bent in like the first few sections and doesn't bother her. Swims in circles, though.

That last part ain't true.

At base of tail could also be an anal problem.......get it looked at right away!

SoggyRedNeck 01-20-2010 06:56 PM

Ok guys, just got out of class. Doc says it's broken still a mystery of how it happened but we know what it is atleast. Told me there isn't anything to do other than give her meds for the pain and swelling. Said it will heal it's self, still hurts her but it will hopefully heal straight.
