Trip Planning?

Not sure if this has been discussed lately or not, but I was just wondering what factors do you consider when planning a fishing trip?

Do you go simply because the weather's too good to pass up? Or do you try to go during a specific tide or moon phase?

Right now I just go when I have time, but I just wanted to pick a few of yall's brains about the topic.

TIA

We always go on the tide &&& astro table,
and hope for the best with weather :help:

gotcha...but if you could explain more please.

Hypothetically speaking...what would be the best scenario, i.e moon and tide?

Montauk17 03-05-2010 12:54 AM

I use this chart it has worked for me in the past. http://gulffishing.com/calwg009.html

wtretrievers 03-05-2010 12:57 AM

Everyone on here is going March 13th & said I had to be there. So I'm going.

BottomOfTheBoot 03-05-2010 01:02 AM

thanks montauk, that could come in handy...

wtretrievers 03-05-2010 01:15 AM

I use this one a good bit....http://66.135.8.10/tideserver/LocationSelect.asp

Dink 03-05-2010 09:30 AM

I go when my wife says I can........

Fishmaster 03-05-2010 09:35 AM

I always like a good 1-2 foot tide, then on the astro table at least a 50 or above..... That astro table can really help out alot, those to things prolly are the most important to me, is you get LSM they have both charts...........

fishmaster911 03-05-2010 10:13 AM

I'll do some home work by looking at tides, weather and all that good stuff but I go when i can because of work !

bay_slayer 03-05-2010 10:26 AM

My wife says i can go fishing any time i want, She just tells me when i want .

simplepeddler 03-05-2010 11:07 AM

I look for a Saturday or a Sunday.............
It kills me when all my buddies in the plants can go during the week.
Or they wait for the perfect conditions and then go.

Of course, I haven't worked nights or weekends in 26 years.

If the weather is good and the tide is moving, I don't look at the feeding times.
You can get them off of any good GPS, but they are not always correct.
I have caught fish when the feeding times said it was not good and barely caught
when they said it was prime feeding time.

yak'em-n-stack'em 03-05-2010 11:21 AM

I go when ray is offshore, lol best fishing times

I agree.:pissed:

catch.and.fillet 03-05-2010 11:41 AM

When work and weather allows, I go on days ending in "y".

but that would mean you go everyday because everyday ends in..............................oooooooo

I see what you did there

Opinions_Vary 03-05-2010 11:44 AM

I have had some of my best days when the "predictions" said to stay home, and I have had some of my worst days when the "predictions" said get out there leave the poles home and just open the ice-chest because they are going to be jumping in.

yak'em-n-stack'em 03-05-2010 11:49 AM

exactly, i look at the tides, but they dont mean everything, ive had great trips on full moons with small tides

Capt. Matt Caire 03-05-2010 03:20 PM

I believe you go whenever you get a chance. Facing different conditions and going when weather is not perfect only can help make you a better fisherman. You may learn some valuable stuff on them crappy days. Then you can challenge yourself to produce fish on the tough days.

Gerald 03-05-2010 08:01 PM

The only thing I really look at / check is the wind. If the wind is not blowing to hard and the water condition is good.....it is time to fish.

While you are out fishing on Big Lake, watch what the tide is doing during the day. Then when you are computer the next time.....check:

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/la/nwis/uv...65,72020,00060

I have often found that what is happening on the lake is not what this web site says in going on down in Cameron [even allowing some time difference].

huntin fool 03-05-2010 08:03 PM

Whenever i have gas in my boat/feel like it...

fishinpox 03-05-2010 09:08 PM

i go when i want to go. the only factor that i look at is wind and that will determine where i will fish wether it be p-train, venice, hopedale....ect,ect. . but the best way i have found to learn an area in not giving a **** just go and deal with what ever conditions god hand you that day eventually you can pattern the fish and find where it fish by comparing that particular day to similar ones of wind, temp, water, temp, tidal movement ect ect . some of the best trip i have had have been the one when you see the flag standing straight out on yer way top the marina and yer havin second thoughts but they end up being killer trips!

longsidelandry 03-05-2010 09:08 PM

I go whenever somebody invites me or when the wind isn't blowing too hard and I can get my boat into the bay.

evis102 03-05-2010 09:18 PM

If I'm off work I go. Sometimes I go before or after work. I may have a problem...

B-Stealth 03-06-2010 04:32 AM

I like to think about the lake and visulize how the wind will effect the conditions and where I want to be; then I start thinking about tide movement. Then I think about the # of boats I think will be fishing that area.

I have a problem, this is what keeps me up at night before a trip.

i like to do the same thing but i have yet to find a tide chart that actually matches the tides of the lake:pissed:

and on top of that the weather channel has got the winds direction and speed wrong the last 9 out of 10 times

LPfishnTIM 03-06-2010 08:23 AM

I don't look at any of that because I don't want to think that any time is better than another. I fish tournaments and the conditions are always different I try to learn how to catch fish in every condition. Tide is important in tidal areas sometimes you don't want to be caught in some places when the tide is at its lowest. I always look for clean moving water and run outs if i'm fishing bass or reds. trout fishing all depends on what season it is. trout can be hard for me to figure out some months thats why I'll read reports.

huntin fool 03-06-2010 10:49 AM

i pretty much..hop in my boat and go when i got time..How much gas i have in my boat depends on where to go..

http://tidesonline.nos.noaa.gov/plot...ieu+Pass%2C+LA

That is the buoy at the Cameron jetties. The tide on the south end of the lake lags behind that by an hour or so. The farther north you go the more the time lag. The winds are always pretty close to lake conditions.

jsmoke222000 03-06-2010 07:23 PM

3 things factor in to my fishing trips.

Beer
Ice
Gas
