In 89 the game wardens allowed everyone who wanted to scoop up dying specks and reds but daily limits did apply.
There are fish this size caught every winter / spring in the GI area. Most are caught by locals who don't open their mouth about them or folks that have Been bank fishing for many years and know where these fish go when it gets cold.
Dont fool yourself into thinking that thereare no mule trout in that area.
And i'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the area that these fish came from has water 18 - 20 ft. deep close by.

They did not allow anyone to pick up dead trout or redfish during the last big freeze in Big Lake. They were patroling and also stationed wardens at launches to let you know that.
