I look at it this way, you take a chance of breaking them no matter where you put them. If you had rod boxes that would be best. Since you don't then back of truck, laying on floor in boat, in the cab of truck or in rod holders in console there are risks to be had anywhere. So if I am not stopping long at a store then I leave them in the console. That is just because it is easier for me. I know people will say they had them in console and this and that happened to them, but having them in front or back of truck they never had any problems. Well I used to keep them there and I have broken more rods than I would like to count. I now let them ride in the console and for 4 years now not one broken.
