For catching gray squirrels.....a 1 x 4 board to make the sides is probably not high enough. I would use a 1 x 6 board.

Ray....I like your pipe trap. Very simple.

You are right, if you are trying to catch GRAY SQUIRRELS. Maybe even 1 x 8. I have used 6's and 8's in the past, and I have caught cat squirrels. Usually when I made these traps, I used what ever 1x's my dad had in the wood rack.

I think I will try Ray's method soon just to see how well it works. I just wonder how many Rat snakes Ray has caught using this trap.

I use to smear a piece of pecan on the front ledge to put the oil on it for scent.
