Oh yeah, and IS is good but IS will not stop a fast subject. It will only help you shoot a stationary subject at a slower shutter speed. It may help with panning, but that is debatable.
To stop a fast subject you need a fast lens.

IS is very good for taking still or action photos. IS is not for stopping fast action, IS is for the user and the human response of shaking/moving while taking pictures. IS helps compensate for the shaking/moving.
