I would like to add a little to JLSCH1's advice. I would definately refelt after tear-off. The felt serves as a second layer of protection for shingles. If you reuse the same felt, it will have an average of 10,000 penetrations (nail holes) already. Most leaks occur at the penetrations ie; sewer stacks, stove vents etc.Pay careful attention to these areas. Advanced Building supply in Baton Rouge have all 'high-end' brands of shingles and are great to do business with. I have had an account with them for 17 years. Get a Spanish/English dictionary so you can comunicate with your roofers and Good Luck...(Be sure to ask if they carry General Liability and Workmen's Comp.) Otherwise you could be handing the keys to your house over to someone else if there is an injury. Cheaper is not always better....
