A lot depends on where you plan to hunt.....private of public???

What type land will you be hunting. Pine trees, thick cover, fairly open or swamp?

Actually, to get started, you could just hunt from the ground. Find a big tree or clump of bushes to help hide from the Deer. This will make hunting a little harder [for a first time hunter] because keeping very still is the key to success.

If you get a ladder stand, get something at least 15' tall.....20' is better IMO. Comfort is also very important. If you are not comfortable, you will not stay in the woods as long and you will move around more. I have killed many Deer between 10 AM and 2 PM.....when lots of "Hunters" are not even in the woods. Infact my 3 biggest bucks were killed during that time of day.

Even for seasoned hunters......IMO, for ever Deer that is seen.....3 or 4 slipped passed them or spotted them first and sneeked off.
