purchased back in 2004. I'm assuming you're referring to a DSLR or digital SLR rather than just an SLR which takes film pictures. Take most of my pictures with a Nikkor 28-200 mm lens. My wife used it the most taking a lot of beautiful close-up flower shots. If you're going to do macro shots you need a fixed lens such as a 60 mm along with a couple of inexpensive magnification filters that screw on to the end of the lens. Much cheaper way to go than buying a fancy macro lens. If you're wanting to take long distance shots of wildlife, etc. you will need a telephoto lens which can end up costing you several times more than the camera itself!
