They should be opening the flood gates NOW to get rid of as much water as possible. This MIGHT keep the water level a little bit lower when the crest gets down to Louisiana.

If I remember correctly..... normally 1/3 of the Mississippi river water is allowed to flow into the Atchafalaya river. Maybe that amount could be inceased now and the Morganza flood way would not have to be opened. All water from both of these places goes south to Morgan City....... and if too much water is sent that way, it could/would flood the city.

This almost happened back in '73 when the Morganza flood way was opened. Most or all [I don't remember] of the gates were closed after several days when they realized Morgan city was about to be flooded because there was just too much water doing down the Atchafalaya Basin.
