There is no one line for every application. I would never dream of fishing braid with top water plugs for trout. No stretch = hooks ripped out of mouths. I use mono for top water. I like that it stretches and it doesn't sink. Perfect application for topwater. Jig fishing for trout, with sand eels or trout killers or whatever, I use flurocarbon. Abrasion resistant on oysters and very little stretch. I have braid on one rod and that is my flounder fishing rod. No need to re-tie with braid and flounder teeth. No stretch for good hook sets in a flounder's hard mouth.
