Rod Tip Broken Need Advice

I have an ASR 6'9" extra fast split grip rod and about 2" of the tip broke off while fishing. Hooked a lady fish it jumped out the water the line twisted around the tip, then when the fish hit the water I heard it snap. What is the best way or place to get it replaced or repaired. How's the warranty on these things? Its a ASR815C Rod.

Don't know anything about the warranty on those rods, but I do know Lake Charles Tackle can fix you right up. Bring the rod in and ask for Blake, he'll hook you right up.

I think it may have a 90 day warranty through the manufacturer.

buy a fuji guide tip for 2.99 and glue it on with 5 min epoxy! thats all rod repair shops do!

If you're near Sulphur, bring it by the Tackle Box. Our rod guy fixes them for $6 and has it back in 1 or 2 days. Having it fixed locally is probably the best option, as Allstar's warranty costs $20 processing and whatever else they charge when they decide it wasn't a manufacturers defect.

From the All Star's website:

All Star Three Year Limited Warranty
For three years from the DATE OF PURCHASE All Star Rods will repair or replace your rod when found to be defective in materials and/or workmanship. The decision to repair or replace will be determined by the All Star Service Center. All Star Rods will have no other obligation and will not be liable for incidental or consequential damages. This warranty does not cover damage caused by addition to or alternation of the product, accident, abuse or normal wear. When possible, this damage may be repaired at consumer expense.
All Star Rods makes no implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS for any period beyond the duration of the limited warranty. This warranty does not extend to products which are put to commercial or rental use.
This warranty gives you specific rights which vary from state to state. Some state laws do not allow exclusion of incidental or consequential damages or limitations of the implied warranties, so the limitations may not apply to you. A $20.00 processing fee is required.

All Star One Year Limited Warranty

For one year from the DATE OF PURCHASE All Star Rods will repair or replace your rod when found to be defective in materials and/or workmanship. The decision to repair or replace will be determined by the All Star Service Center. All Star Rods will have no other obligation and will not be liable for incidental or consequential damages. This warranty does not cover damage caused by addition to or alternation of the product, accident, abuse or normal wear. Damages of this nature may be repaired at consumer expense.

I think I bought it at Cabelas about a year ago.

I might do the same thing. I guess its not only mine, must be a defect.

I have a couple of rods I "tipped" the same way using braid. Wasn't a warranty issue...I broke 'em. I did go get a new Fuji guide on the cut off section and actually like the action of the rods better for top waters; just a little quicker and stiffer.

Just get it fixed locally and get back on the water!

I have a few of those myself. I got them at academy in Lafayette and broke the tip on one. It was my fault but they swapped it out no questions asked. I had my receipt though.

Went to Academy in Lafayette tonight and they didn't have the rod tip I needed in stock. Guess I'll have to try something else.

Academy use to sell a pack that has 3 different size rod tips in it.

Do you have any old broken rods? Maybe one of the tips will fit.

Ron Ardoin, Reelman, fixes rods and reels across the street from the Bell City High School. Very reasonable.

BIGJ 07-26-2011 09:30 PM

Fixed it. Found the tip that had broken off. drilled the piece of rod out of the old tip and gorilla glued that sucker back on the rod. Good to go.

Good deal!
