July 20, 2011 – Today the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced the 2011 spring inshore shrimp season will close at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 23 in the following areas within Shrimp Management Zone 3:
- The portion of the Calcasieu Ship Channel originating at a line between Channel Markers 85 and 86 southward to a point originating along the inside/outside shrimp line at Calcasieu Pass as described in LA R.S.56:495(A) and including East Pass from its origin at the Calcasieu Ship Channel to the south end of Calcasieu Lake and West Pass from its origin at the Calcasieu Ship Channel to the south end of West Cove.
- The portion of Cameron Parish west of Calcasieu Lake and the Calcasieu Ship Channel.
Effective with this shrimp season closure, all state inside waters from the Mississippi/Louisiana state line westward to the Louisiana/Texas state line, will be closed to shrimping except for certain waters within Shrimp Management Zone 1.
Recent data gathered by LDWF biologists indicates the quantity, distribution and percentage of small juvenile white shrimp have rapidly increased in recent weeks. This closure will protect developing shrimp in the waters of Zone 3.
