What type of plywood is used?
Depending on how much you want to spend, you have a few options when buying the plywood. The cheapest way to go is to "scarf" or join two pieces of smaller plywood to create a larger piece. Click here for an explanation on how this is done. Click here to view pictures of the scarfing process. This is done with exterior grade 1/4" plywood, which can be bought at any home improvement center or lumber yard. If you use two pine pieces, the cost will be about $30, fir pieces will be about $50. If you decide not to scarf two pieces, a 14' sheet of marine quality plywood will cost approx. $98. This can be ordered from Robichaux's Lumber Yard (see below).
