I use 30 lb power pro for my spinning rods. No complaints. We lost a couple of bull drum or bull redfish broken off, but that was at the end of the jetties in Bell Pass, so I think they got into the rocks. We had three hook ups simultaneously at one point, so we were really horsing them in trying to avoid tangles. I prefer 50 lb power pro on my level winds (Diawa Sealine Line Counters on 6' medium heavy Ugly Sticks). I really horsed in a 40 inch redfish last year right outside of Calcasieu pass with no problems. Bait was a 13" croaker.

We landed lots of bull redfish and drum that trip. Most of the break-offs we had were leader failures with 40-50 lb fluorocarbon fishing on the bottom. When I went to 80 lb Seaguar and retied all the knots every day we had no more leader failures. The 40 inch redfish on the 13" croaker was on a steel leader. When fishing under a bobber, we stuck with a 20-40 lb fluorocarbon leader.

Some colleagues recently published a paper on breaking strength of flurorcarbon leaders with and without knots: http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1202/1202.5260.pdf . Testing was done on ratings close to 15 lbs, but I think that the better brands will also fare better in the higher ratings too. I am beginning to use 60 lb Ande fluorocarbon.
