I tried changing my water pump yesterday and ran into a problem. The spedometer tube is not long enough to drop the foot in order to get the shaft out of the housing

. I tried unhooking the senser from the motor but it still did not give me enough slack. There is a splice that won't allow the tube to feed any further. Is there a tool to disconnect the splice or is there a trick to unscewing the spedometer tube from foot? I tried using a wrench on the foot but there is not enough room to get a good bite on it. A socket would be the way to go but I can't do that because the tube coming out of the fitting. Thanks for the help. I hope Montak is around.(Have picks on my I phone but have no clue on how to post them.)
Thanks
