"cutting off a drift".......If a boat is drifting with the wind or current in a certain direction, the area out in the direction the boat is drifting should be respected by other boaters. Moving into the area a boat is drifting is considered by most fishermen/women to be bad etiquette.

Now the question is...... how close is too close to move in front of a boat's drift? This kind of depends on how fast the boat is drifting.

IMO...... this distance would be 300 to 500 yards using the trolling motor 200+ yards to get into the area.
