Trip not soon forgotten!
Ever had one of those trips you want to forget? Well, after so much hype, I couldn't wait to get down to Dularge. Too bad my 2010 Dodge w/ only 67K miles on it wasn't! Got off of Hwy 90 and heard a strange sound. Within 5 miles of hearing the sound, I was dead in the water on the side of the road. Apparently my rear end seized up and when that happened at 50 mph on Hwy 182 in Gibson, all hell broke loose. My rear end blew out, which then caused catastrophic failure to the transfer case. The flying drive shaft then proceeded to tear up all kinds of stuff under the chasis. All of this in a curve where we were almost run over several times trying to direct traffic. Troop C sent a unit out to me in a hurry to keep us safe and I had a guy passing pull us down the road and off the highway. The wife grabbed a ride from the trooper to Enterprise rental in Houma, and a wrecker took the "goat" to the dealer in Opelousas.
Got back on the road with the boat and arrived after a long delay. The next day continued with the antics, but we did catch some nice specks despite the high winds at the islands on plastic. The low tide on the way back to the dock were noticed by me, but I didn't think twice about it while putting the boat on the trailer. Too bad for me the deep keel of boat hit a cross member a shaved about 6" of the newly patched keel down to the gel coat. I say "newly" as in just picked it up at the fiberglass shop prior to leaving on this trip and planned on leaving it down for the summer. Instead, I picked up a new keel roller and bracket to install and have the boat back home to get it repaired again!
My momma always said there would be days like this.....just didn't know they would be so frequent!
