Footage length matters because you ultimately have to edit it to get something worth watching. I think it would be perfect for quick segments which is what it sounds like you would use it for. My neighbor uses them for filming pool footage for real estate ads.

For some reason I thought I could turn it on when I started a trip and turn it off when I left but it takes a lot of time/processing power to go through an hour + of footage. I feel like start/stop filming is a lot easier with a camcorder but that may just be my personal preference.

Also, your computer makes a big difference in editing capability. I run a Mac and the software is very easy to use. I am sure there are good programs for Windows or Winstons, depending on what you use.
