And the #1 coolest thing your kids will talk about and it takes $2 and 30 minutes of your time. Take them on the canal street ferry, it's in between the riverwalk and the aquarium, you ride your car/truck on it and cross the river, they will think its the coolest thing in the world, mines did.

Jimmy buffets has a nice atmosphere even for kids and a decent burger.

If you have a little girl they have a "pink" store on decatur, everything in the store is pink, my little girl likes it. (not sure if you have one)

you mentioned the insectarium, it's really not that big, but your kids will have fun. The butterfly exhibit in it is pretty cool.
