12 acres is more than big enough. Neighbor built a 8 acre pond. Made the middle a shallow island that has only 1 to 2 feet of water over it. Can also draw water down to let weeds grow on it. Dug it deep on one end around 16 to 18 ft deep and left the other end around 5 foot. Fish it by making laps like on a race track hitting both banks. Two bass caught out of there this year over 10 with one going close to 12 lbs. Pond was built and stocked 15 years ago. Pond also has a lot of smaller fish he asks everybody to keep the small ones to help keep it culled down.
He only stocked it once after they built so they are spawning its a great little pond.
