Spoke with 2 top notch tranny specialist, and both said I was blessed to get what I did with the programmer and bigger tires! The tuner curves the power range substantially in second gear, wear it makes a lot of its torque! 2nd gear is notorious for going out on the 4 speed.
Both said they've seen numerous 4 speeds with 60-70k miles slipping second from non aggressive drivers meaning your typical 70 yr old man pulling his airstream 6 times a year!
The trick is heavy duty clutch plates, and and oversize torque converter! Heat kills them!
I pull an occasional 10-12k load, but pull 3,500-4000 3-4 times a week 6 moths a year! I've got a Jasper in mine now with the heavy duty plates and over sized converter! 4,500 installed! My buddy has a custom built that ran 7k
A dodge factory will run 3,700 @ dodge cost before Jethro Bodine installs it!
The manuals burn plates also, but are not quite as costly to repair or replace!
