I got my Captain's License (Six Pack) a couple years ago through Captain Roy's Marine Training in Seabrook, Texas. I did it over the course of 3 weekends, driving over each weekend from Lake Charles. It wasn't bad at all. Easy course and if you are worried about chartplotting, they did a good job of teaching it at Captain Roy's. I didn't find anything difficult about the course or exams - it's just a matter of memorizing safety and navigation information and then spitting it back out on paper. The guys that teach there are just like everyone else here....they love to be on the water and love to feel a tug on the end of the line. The course was reasonably priced compared to other schools I looked at. Not only did they help with every step of the Coast Guard course to make sure I passed the exams, but they also helped me get squared away with the other pieces of the puzzle that i needed to become a licensed fishing guide in Louisiana. I would recommend them if you are interested in knocking your course out at a school. If they get enough people to sign up for a course in a particular area, I believe they will actually come to you instead of you having to go to them in Seabrook.
