For trolling motor plugs [or any electrical connections], corrosion is a major problem on boats used in saltwater.
If you don't take your trolling motor off the boat......why have a plug?
The best thing to do [IMO] is to eliminate the plug and "hard wire" it and coat it to keep saltwater away from the connection.
Get you 2 of the copper clamps shown in the picture and a bottle of Liquid tape. These clamps are sold electrical supply places and the Home Depot here in Lake Charles has the smaller size. Lowe's does not have the small size......I bought a pack in May to replace my plug that corroded after 9 month.
The clamps and liquid tape will cost about $ 11
Cut the red wire about 1.5" different length from the black wire, so that the clamps will be about 1" apart after they are installed.
Oh.....don't forget to first disconnect the "Positive" wire from the battery.
