Chris,
I couldn't agree with you more. The older blacks back in the 50's, 60's 70's and early 80's tried hard to get on an equal footing. They went through a lot of pain to make changes. In my opinion, Rap music and Rap culture has set the blacks back 50 years. The culture now appears to be all about drugs, ho's and hatin on the white man. Seventy percent of all black children are born out of wedlock. With a statistic like that I foresee huge problems in the black communities for generation to come.
In my mind it's all about parenting and where you send you kids to school. Really, if I was a black parent I would not let my kids go to an all black school because even if I was the most caring, attentive parent in the world, it would be hard to overcome the peer pressure in that environment - kids want to fit in more than anything.
I have the utmost respect for blacks that challenge the new culture young blacks have adopted. When I worked for Immigration and Customs Enforcement the two smartest folks I worked with were black. Once was a trial attorney that had an amazing memory and could cite cases by memory unlike anything I have ever seen and the other was a black female judge would was simply amazing in her ability to organize and synthesize facts. She would often cross examine the aliens in front of her and it was always fun to watch - especially some of the hispanics from places like El Salvador where they have no respect for women or blacks. She would rip them a new one and within minutes the lie they had just told was revealed. She was and is simply amazing. In addition to be smart, she was very caring. She did not have children of her own, but she took in many foster children and even paid for two of them to go to college.
Color does not matter at all, it's character that matters. Unfortunately, the current younger black generation does not appear to put much emphasis on character, in fact, it appears they shun the thought of having character as a white trait. Of course, all you have to do is go into the Walmart here in Deridder and you can see there is no shortage of white trash either and though their culture is different, their sense of entitlement is pretty much the same.
