My bro in LC warned me not to leave rods sticking above his fence line after rinsing them off (inside the fence) because he's had passers by reach over and take them. He's got three dogs and a pretty good security system and lives in a good part of town. Sitting in a boat in a covered and fenced area where the dogs have access and there is no direct view from the road, there are no problems.
I wouldn't dare leave rods or electronics in my boat anywhere in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, or Grand Isle or anywhere in between unless the boat is in a secured area. When we stop at Walmart or anywhere for more than 5 minutes, we leave someone in the car to watch the rods.
