We use sort of a carolina rig. We have a 1 oz slip sinker on the braid above a snap swivel and then a 2-4 ft leader on the snap swivel with the crab or mullet on a 7/0 hook at the end. If the current requires more weight, we add a 2-4 oz pyramid sinker to the snap swivel. Sometimes, I'll tie in a 4 oz barrel slip sinker above the snap swivel (on the braid). All these permutations have worked. The key is getting the crab on or close to the bottom.
