I started with my son at 4 with fishing close by in the Basin. He showed potential with being patient and we slowly expand from there. Longer saltwater trips then to the WMA for some squirrels as the year progressed.
This year I went out and got into a lease; first time in 8 yrs with the intent ro introduce duck hunting. Like most others very controlled conditions, short walk to blinds, snacks and something to keep him busy.

So far its been a great success. He looks forward to it so much that I get the best behaved boy all week, knowing his reward will be a weekend hunt.

One other point; it really helps if you're in a lease with kid friendly members. Growing up hunting young I can speak to some negative experiences that I'll be certain my kids aren't subjected too.

We also started gun safety at home. Showed my wife what we were learning and that he was capable of comprehending the dangers. She has since felt alot more comfortable.

My 2 cents.
