Yeah, as much as I love to catch fish and put my children and guests on the fish, I like crowds a lot less and naturally gravitate toward locations and methods that produce fish without the crowds.
There is plenty of room at the jetties and along the beach to spread out even if lots of folks are fishing. We found out best spot at the jetties (close to the cut) one time when boats were stacked up favoring the hole closer to the end. Even Turner's Bay has plenty of room to spread out and has never seemed crowded compared to the weirs. Grand Isle is just a dream when it comes to being able to find fish while maintaining a comfortable fishing distance.
One key to our success that I don't mention much is putting the boat in a spot where all directions are pretty good and likely to produce. Setting up at the weirs makes one casting direction too highly favored. I like spots where casting the bait away from structure is as likely to produce as casting bait toward structure and casting into deeper water is as likely as casting into shallower water. We routinely cover a radius of 100-200 feet in all directions from the boat. If one area or bait is working, we might give it a bit more emphasis.
