In Ohio, we finally solved these problems by carrying a roll of duct tape. We stuck the tag (writing side visible) to the tape and applied a few extra wraps sticking the tag to a leg. The tag would stay attached through thick and thin of the drag back, and one could cut the duct tape off and recover the tag in the event of a game warden. The $20 either sex tag and the $10 (later $15) antlerless tags were the more objectionable issues, along with the fact that real rifles were banned and self-defense handguns were also banned while hunting.
